Hi-I have taught 1st or 2nd grade for 15 years but was just told today I'm moving to a combo class of 28 3/4 graders next year. I would love ideas on classroom management, schedules, etc. I am being told that it would be ok to combine my science and social studies curriculum (ie. teaching 4th grade to everyone next year, then 3rd grade curriculum the following) and I will have a nearly full time aide so Ithink I'm pretty fortunate. Still....I'm a little frightened of the unknown. Thanks for any help, Lisa

TessaTL I didn't mind a 3/4 combo. Although I had sort of an opposite experience from the last poster. Reading was easy to teach, but math was a bit more difficult. I had a co-teacher for math. She took the third graders and I taught the fourth.

I also did literature circles with that age some of the year. Emotionally I thought they combined well...See More

Jan I've very excited about teaching a combo 3/4 class this year, even if it's only for language arts. I'm here looking for multiage tips and ideas. Thanks for letting me join in the conversation!

Blue Heron Hi Jan,

I'm going to be teaching a 3/4 split this year. I am trying to combine the expectations where it is possible. It will be a fun year. rural MI teacher I, too have been moved to a 3/4 classroom this year. Do you have a separate "multiage" report card for students. If not, how do you address the looping curriculum. I REALLY want to loop my social studies and science, but our report cards are grade specific (i/e. 3rd grade speaks specifically about MI studies) ANY help would be great
