I've taught in a multiage classroom all but two of my 10 years of teaching, and have gotten pretty comfortable with it. One of the areas I struggle with is the word wall. I taught a stand alone first grade last year and really used that word wall. It was wonderful. We had a daily minilesson and activity. I feel like the kids really learned a TON. We did it all in 15-20 minutes and it fit just right into the day. Now I have 2 grades to incorporate who have such different lists. 1st grade is basic sight words. 2nd grade is so much more complex. I'm finding it hard balancing the two with that time frame. I'm considering differentiating completely and just fitting time into writing conferences or something, but to be honest, I know that wouldn't last. Any ideas?
