I have a K/1 class and I am having difficulty juggling everything curriculum-wise. There is a 23 month age span between my youngest and my oldest student. Some of my kindergarteners are already 7 years old, while many of my first graders are only 6. I have special ed kids, language impaired students, and a couple of children from such dysfunctional homes that it spills over into the classroom very, very much. Sometimes I feel like I am drowning in the juggling, and I do not feel that there is adequate support for me and my students. The model is new to my district, and I have heard that the few other K/1's are also struggling. I am terrified that I won't get my kids where they need to be academically, and of course, I will be held accountable. I have a very in-depth understanding of the K curriculum, and only a marginal understanding of where my first graders need to be.
