I'm so sorry, this is in the inappropriate area. I posted this elsewhere on the chatboard. Feel free to ignore this until its deleted. Sorry for troubling you all, apparently I need to work on my reading comprehension skills.
I have been a high school special education teacher for 7 years, and I am interested in becoming a health and phys. ed. teacher in NJ. What are some steps that I need to take to do this? Is it 30 credit hours + Praxis?
Does anyone know where I can find out laws regarding P.E. I was told that in Illinois, we can not make a student run. If that is the case, I would like to know other laws regarding Physical Education.
Just an add-on to my last remark-think about it this way: a math teacher cannot make a student do math either or an English teacher make a student write a report! You let the students know what is expected of them and if they don't meet your expectations (and I'm not talking about a 4-minute mile)it will show on their grade. In my book, if you ask them to do something reasonable and they refuse, that is insubordination and being uncooperative which is a big part of the grade-ccoperation!
Our PE teachers do a yearly evening program for parents showcasing the dances their child has been working on. We'd like to do something different this year. Anyone have any good ideas or something that has worked for them? Thanks....
cjodeHave you tried stacking? It is a cup stacking event in which the participants are timed. Google stacking, it is cool. We used it in an afterschool tutoring program and then had a demo and computer link at an open house for the grant tutoring program.

We do an evening of speed stacking. Some of the kids showcase some of the different activities we do with them and then we involve the parents-it's very interesting watching the kids try to teach their parents how to stack. At the end of the evening we have a few races and even do a few doubles races with parents and kids teaming up. Everybody enjoys themselves and it's a good way to introduce the parents to the sport.
I am undergoing the task of national boards and would love some help from anyone who would be willing to offer. Please email if so Jason.[email removed]
I was wondering where i can find a website that will give me different ideas on how to group kids. I am tired of counting off and that kind of thing. so i am looking for fun ways to put kids in groups of 2 or more
I never count off because the kids are so busy rearranging themselves they forget their numbers. Some of the ways I do it: 1) line up according to birthdays. They must do this on their own which is good cooperative skills. 2) according to heights-beginning with the tallest and ending with the shortest. 3) one day go every other one and the next, 2 in a row. That way when they line up every other one on day two with their friends, they don't end up with them. 4) a deck of card works great. If you need 2 teams, red on one side, black on the other. If you need 3 kids on a team, group together according to their numbers; or clubs and hearts on one team, etc. This is probably my best way even tho it takes a few minutes to sort the cards. I don't allow anyone to show their cards. 5)"partner up with the red line between you"-all on one side are team A and the other team B.
As you can see, splitting the teams evenly is not that tough. Occassionally the teams aren't always that even (ability wise) but either is life and I always have the last say in switching kids if I need to for whatever reason.
I’m having trouble passing the praxis Physical Education Content Knowledge (0091). Does anyone have any recommendations on a good study guide or how to prepare for it?

Maybe this is a dumb question but what is the Praxis PE Content test? We don't have that around here.

I've taken the test several times and I came as close as 1 point of passing the test. They have a web site [link removed].
I'm looking for a video the kids could do in the classroom. We haven't been outside for recess in quite some time and they are getting restless. Any good ones for the kindergarten age?
• Do you kno...See MoreHi, I am currently going to school for elementary education and I am taking a class about teaching health in school. We have an assignment to get in contact with 3 health professionals in schools to get the following questions answered. If you can take some time to answer them I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
• Do you know you are considered 1 part of an 8 part Coordinated School Health Program and do you know what a Coordinated School Health Program is?
• What is your main role in promoting a healthful school environment?
• How do you coordinate with other members of the team or do you?
• What part do you play in the overall ability of a student to be successful and learn?
This sounds like a remark made by a parent!! Check with the county superintendent's office--...See More
