K-5 - My inspiration catch phrase this year is going to be Play Hard, Play Fair, Play Safe.
I am looking for ideas that are creative to present each one that will keep the 1st couple of days interesting, fun and comical. Does anyone have any ideas.

Andrea, I'm hoping others will come up w/some ideas to go with you're neat idea. All I could come up with was starting each class with an action/movement as they chant the catch phrase. Action examples: (play hard)running in place hard while teachers counts to 5,(play fair) students quickly freeze and place hands above head like halo or could shake hands w/ someone,(play safe)the umpire's safe signal for baseball. Additionally could concentrate on play safe the first week or so of school and use it as a beginning and ending point of each class as far as discussion and asking students what we should do in this game/activity to "play safe". Thanks, Linda
Before the year starts I got a glimse of my new schedule. I have 6th grade Art and three PE classes, two 8th and one 7th.
I do not have any PE certifications. I know there are some, around the rules things that happen, but this seems a bit much.
Does anyone know what the requirements are for PE at the 6-8 grade levels in Texas? And better yet where to find them, easily. I've scoured the net, everything is so murrrrrky.
I am going to the admins with appropriate questions when I know at least part of the answer.

I have a degree in Physical Education. I am not certified and Ive used all my grant and loan money. I was told by my adviser that I need to repeat 5 courses to bring up my PGA to be admitted to teacher program. Where can i find money to repeat 5 classes. I really need help.
Without being sounding rude, your best bet is to get a job and earmark your paychecks for the classes. Maybe a job at a YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, or a health club. Not only will you be earning $ but it will look good on your resume.

For instance, do you have a gym, basketball hoops, volleyball nets, only an outdoor space, a multi-purpose room, etc... One activity you can do is make a sheet of 20 or so exercises (have same number of exercises as you have students). Number each of the exercises. Give each student a number to start with and then have them rotate throughout the gym every few minutes so that they get through all of the exercises. You can use all different kinds of exercises depending on the equipment you have. You can do push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, jump roping, pull-ups, shuttle run, shooting basketball hoops, volley a ball in the air with a partner (have 2 numbers in a row at the volleying station), throw a ball off the wall, throw catch with partner (football, gator skin ball, etc.. again, have 2 numbers in a row at the throwing catch station), using bands to do different strength exercises, toss a medicine ball with partner, weightlifting exercies if you have any weights, etc... Basically just pick exercises for the equipment you have. Play music in the background and switch every minute or so and the kids will stay very active.
Also, if you have a gym where you can make 2 lines 15 or 20 meters apart, you can do a pacer run. You can download the pacer beep test online. There are 2 pacer beep tests. One for 15m and one for 20m. Try to find the one for the space you have. The pacer test has levels and the kids have a great time trying to get to the highest level that they can. Its also great excercise as they get a lot of running in a class period.

ErinI play a game we call "The North and South Wind". The north wind wears a blue pinnie and the south wind wears a yellow or red pinnie. The north wind freezes the students and south wind melts the students. This is good for K-2. It allows for lessons on Freeze Melt as well as North and South and about the winds.
I'm subbing tomorrow for an Adaptive Phys Ed class. The children range in ages of 5 through 13. They are most than likely low functioning Autistic to CP to ED. What's a good game to play with everyone? Also, not sure if I will have access to materials, like the scooters.. Any suggestions?
