I'm interested in some dialogue with other teacher in Alt.Ed. and Spec. Ed. HS settings for the research aspect of a joint Professional Growth Plan. Can anyone share info on best practices in your school regarding "do now" activities, how to deal with lateness; how to address literacy challenges?

We are supposed to be using SMART Goals this year - student performance based, data-driven... anyone else having questions or answers for this?? Ideas & observations most appreciated.

I had a lifeskills PE class first semester (Adaptive),starting the second semester I will have about 10 mainstream students as well. I had a blast with the adaptive guys, just need some ideas/tips on how to accommodate both groups now. I will be asking fellow PE teachers as well, but any thoughts would be great. Thanks
Hi everyone, Does anyone have any websites for Phys. Ed. worksheets to reinforce lessons in the gym when you do not have access to a gym and have to be in the class. Thanks, Kiera
I am a late starter. I have wanted to teach PE since I was in middle school. However, unforseen circumstances prevented me from this goal. I have a degree in Physical Education and I am retired from another profession. I have a wealth of experience including 8 years in the Air Force. I am 57 years old. Is it time to forget my dream?
Can someone please point me to a website, etc. so I can get some wisdom to help my daughter in case she does not make cheerleader. I know it sounds silly, but it is serious to her. I need words of wisdom. Thank you in advance. [email removed]

First of all, what grade is she in? If she's in the higher grades, competition starts getting rough in the year before high school. If she's in grades lower than that, smile and give her a big hug and tell her 'lets work hard for next year'. Then maybe make her her favorite meal/snack and watch a funny movie or similar. It'll help ease the pain of not making the cut. Not to mention both of you will feel better. ^^
This is exactly why competition is necessary in younger age groups. As pe teachers we are told time and again that every activity needs to be "cooperative" so we don't have winners or losers. On youth sports teams-everybody gets equal playing time. My opinion of that is that we don't prepare the kids for the tough times when they don't make the cheerleading squad or the basketball team or heaven forbid we have to play on the "B" squad and be embarassed! Competition is a way of life...found in every field of life. Competition to get the promotion over your fellow workers, competition to make more money or drive a bigger car than your neighbor, competition to get into the best colleges or get the big scholarship. One of the biggest causes of suicide in college students is they have never experienced failure. If you learn from your failure, it isn't a failure. Sorry to get on the soap box but this is exactly why I favor competition at all levels. Keep your fingers crossed, encourage your daughter to do her best, and if she doesn't make it...well, life will go on and maybe she will find other interests. Good luck to your daughter.
Hi, I have read that 60% of teaching jobs are filled by recommendations or word of mouth. If you know of a current Physical Education job opening please let me know. Thank you, Janelle
