I am providing prep coverage for a JK class this year and I am finding it difficult to program effectively for this class. There are 30 students with me in the gym and one EA who is essentially commmitted to the three most challenging students in the class. I have this class for a one hour period. I have at my disposal typical gym equipment (enough bean bags and tennis ball for each of them, some scoops and whiffle balls, some scooter boards, maybe a dozen hoola hoops, etc.). I tried centres, but they just go to whichever centre they want and have trouble with the concept of rotating to the next activity. There are so many of them that having them line up to take turns at an activity leads to frustration on their part. Any advice on how I can better program for this class would be appreciated.
I feel that with the holidays, students need an extra reminder about nutrition and physical fitness. Anyone have any creative ideas for promoting nutrition with the holidays fast approaching?
PEcentral has a whole section just for holiday games and lesson plans! Check out the link...I found really great lesson such as, "The Twelve Days of Fitness." It is when students sing to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and have to do various activities instead of the items!
I was wondering what everyone thinks about dodge ball. I've heard mixed feelings about it. But I always remember playing it in school. What do you think? Should it be played in schools? If so, how and when?

Dodge ball is a great activity as long as the teacher can provide a safe environment for the students. The following precautions can make it an enjoyable activity. -make sure the equipment (ball) is made from dense foam -no hitting above the armpits -teacher assigned teams This can ensure a great time for the students.

Agreed with Adrian, It is a great activity that allows students to develop their skills in teamwork, hand eye coordination, and moving while trying to hit a target.
Does anyone have any suggestions for Entry 3 for National Boards? The students are supposed to be at least partly responsible for their learning and I am LOST - I think the terminology of this entry is confusing me...
