I have been teaching high school science for 10 years, and I am thinking of switching to a PE teacher. I think I would like to teach elementary level. I am afraid my abilities to coach a sport such as basketball, volleyball aren't that great, however I am in pretty good shape and can learn. DO I test out or do I need to take a few classes. I am so ready for a change! What is a day like for a PE coach? Any advice? I am sure it isn't easy but it does sound like a lot more fun!

The best way for you to get first hand experience with the job would be to shadow a PE teacher. Go to another school where the students won't know you and follow the teacher around for the day. Take notes and at the end of the day ask lots of questions. If it is still some thing you want to do then talk with your local ESD they will be able to point you in the direction you need to go. Good Luck.
