A high-level whistleblower has told this newspaper that America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) breached its own rules on scientific integrity when it published the sensational but flawed report, aimed at making the maximum possible impact on world leaders including Barack Obama and David Cameron at the UN climate conference in Paris in 2015.
The report claimed that the ‘pause’ or ‘slowdown’ in global warming in the period since 1998 – revealed by UN scientists in 2013 – never existed, and that world temperatures had been rising faster than scientists expected. Launched by NOAA with a public relations fanfare, it was splashed across the world’s media, and cited repeatedly by politicians and policy makers.
But the whistleblower, Dr John Bates, a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation, has shown irrefutable evidence that the paper was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data.
It was never subjected to NOAA’s rigorous internal evaluation process – which Dr Bates devised.
You said, "There is now pretty good agreement that sea level rise will be the first to cause major problems. So, a worst case scenario, about 13,000 years ago, sea level started to rise at a rate of one meter (~3 feet) every 20 years,
A guy named Ballard, said," some 12,000 years ago, much of the world was covered in ice. Where I live in Connecticut was ice a mile above my house, all the way back to the North Pole, about 15 million kilometers, that's a big ice cube," he said. "But then it started to melt. We're talking about the floods of our living history."
So he and a team went to check it out... Four hundred feet below the surface, they unearthed an ancient shoreline, proof to Ballard that a catastrophic event did happen in the Black Sea. By carbon dating shells found along the shoreline, Ballard said he believes they have established a timeline for that catastrophic event, which he estimates happened around 5,000 BC. Some experts believe this was around the time when Noah's flood could have occurred.
Just based on the above, TEC, the math doesn't work out.
(information is per ABC news)
and that rate of increase continued for 400 years with sea level, in the end, being 20 meters or 65 feet higher.
For a reference, just go to the article, "A Slippery Slope: How Much Global Warming Constitutes 'Dangerous Anthropogenic Interference'?" by James E. Hansen of NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and you will find this:
(Quote)
Consider the situation during past ice sheet disintegrations. In melt-water pulse 1A, about 14,000 years ago, sea level rose about 20 meters in approximately 400 years (Kienast et al., 2003). That is an average of 1 meter of sea level rise every 20 years. The nature of glacier disintegration required for delivery of that much water from the ice sheets to the ocean would be spectacular (5 cm of sea level, the mean annual change, is about 15,000 cubic kilometers of water). “Explosively” would be an apt description, if future ice sheet disintegration were to occur at a substantial fraction of the melt-water pulse 1A rate.
(End quote)
About the "Four hundred feet below the surface (of the Black Sea), they unearthed an ancient shoreline." Yes, there is a theory that says that the Black Sea basin was once dry and it flooded catastrophically. This may be the origin of the Biblical Flood.
However, this was not a world wide flood and there has never been such a thing, because there is not enough water on the planet. Then again, you may wish to pretend that some God created extra water as the flood started and then had the water disappear as the flood receded. Do not expect scientists to accept this idea because you are violating the Law of Conservation of Matter at both the beginning and end of the flood.

On to the climate change deniers! A poster wrote, "If someone requires Blind Faith in science in order to be considered modern." It is not so much blind faith as knowing who the experts are and listening to them. I can follow most of what they say. However, I do not - ever - pretend to have their expertise. So I listen to what they say. Climate change deniers, on the other hand, are described by this quote from Isaac Asimov:
(Quote)
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
(End quote)
And the last quote, "go ahead and explain why temperature records taken by scientists have to be changed." This poster does not understand that data is not used in its raw form. It must be interpreted. Yet there are rules to follow, and if done correctly, the other scientists will find it acceptable.

There was quite a bit of murmuring about Trump nominees being put in place to undo and dissolve the departments they are seeking to lead. Anyone think there could be some truth in that?
I don't think secretary DeVos will, but I think it would be a great idea to dismantle the Department of Education. We have spent over a hundred billion dollars on education since it was created and we still do not show any significant gains in performance for high-school students. There are only modest games for any other grade levels. Do we really need a vast bureaucracy?
I hate to break it to Ms Pelosi, but G-dub is no longer president. Maybe it's time for some of these older folk in the House to ride off into the sunset.
Defending GW, which is what is being done with the comment "G-dub is no longer president", is a bad idea! I mean, Al Capone is dead. Yet, we still talk about what he did!
I made no such defense. Ms Pelosi said she could not find where she could work with president (she was talking about the current president) Bush.
Now, I know we are still paying for his wars, as well as obamas. But she must realize the G-dub is not the current president. Or maybe she doesn't since she has so much hatred for the man and has been using him as a reason.to not reach across the aisle since he was elected president. Old habits die hard.
Notably missing from the list is Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain. The reason these countries should be on the list is they are the greatest supporters of Wahabism, which is described "as an Islamic 'reform movement' to restore "pure monotheistic worship' (tawhid) by devotees, and as a 'deviant sectarian movement', 'vile sect' and a distortion of Islam by its opponents."
In the past, American policy in the Middle East has been to support the triad of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar - thus our support of terrorists in the Syrian War. Support for the triad seems to be continuing under Pres. Trump. However, the demonization of Russia is being set aside for a focus on Iran.
It seems some have figured out that a war with Russia would be insane, and a war would Iran with Russia's support would be just as disastrous. Some suspect that Pres. Trump may be looking to help Russia with the Ukraine in exchange for Russia not supporting Iran.
Any way you slice this, terrorism continues, because terrorism comes from the countries we are supporting. Plus, the Iran demonization is a continuation of "regime change", spending trillions on the military industrial complex, and extending our 15 years of war on into the future.
The other point is, some may howl all they like about how the Trump's ban is terrible treatment of "nice people." If the public is going to be enraged - which the oligarchs do not like - it is best that they be enraged over some trivial issue. I say trivial only in comparison to the hundreds of thousands who have died and will die as we pursue a foreign policy that makes the rich richer and pushes a whole lot of poor people into our military only to die so the rich can have even more.
Dose any one hear like trumps choise for secretary of education? I don't particularly think she is qualified, but I don't understand why the dems are fighting so hard against her.

The result would be an educational system that operates the same way as the conservative health care - that is, "It is not a right, and if you cannot pay for it you do not get it!"
HOWEVER, a good portion of the Democratic Party tends to "sleep walk" through politics. Oh sure, they wake up every four years for the presidential elections. Yet, they even tend to sleep through the off year elections, which is why Republicans make such gains.
They were planning on Hillary winning so they could go back to sleep. Hillary's lost to Pres. Trump enraged them enough that they are on the attack and refuse to sleep. However, there long periods of sleep have left them inexperienced - as is seen by their attacks on every little thing whether it is a real issue or not.
IMHO, they want their revenge on Pres. Trump. There is talk of impeaching Pres. Trump. He would be replaced by Pres. Pence. If they accomplish the impeachment of Pres. Trump, I predict the democrats would go back to sleep. Then Pres. Pence could do everything Mr. Trump is doing and wants to do, and you would hardly hear a peep!
Why is this true? Answer: because both the Democrats and the Republicans are owned by the oligarchs that run this country, and they will do what it takes to get the people to naively vote in favor of the oligarch's interests. Or alternately, they will do what it takes to put the people back to sleep!
The majority of the Brussels attackers were Belgian men of Moroccan descent. The attacker in Nice was Tunisian. Most of the Paris attackers were French and Belgian. The Istanbul airport attackers were Russian The Istanbul nightclub attacker was Uzbeki The Boston Bombers were Americans whose family came from Kyrgyzstan.
Where are Belgium, France, Morocco, Russia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Tunisia on the list?
I thought this had been answered many times. ??? The Muslim nations not on the list of seven have had relatively stable governments, thus their vetting was seen as more reliable, apparently.
Of course young people living anywhere can become radicalized. There was a young american couple 40 miles from me who were caught on their way to join ISIS. Travel restrictions won't catch them except when they return to the U.S. from one of those seven nations, theoretically.
They say fear is the strongest motivator. After 9/11, Americans were so afraid they found nothing wrong with the following from "Five Ways Bush's Era of Repression Has Stolen Your Liberties Since 9/11." This is not the complete list.
(Quote)
The government is monitoring your phone calls and can read your e-mails and open your snail mail.
Law enforcement officers can bust into your home when you're not there, riffle through your belongings, plant a recording device on your computer, and leave without notifying you for at least thirty days -- and maybe a lot more.
You no longer have the right to protest where the president or vice president can see you, or at major public events when they aren't even present.
Law enforcement officers can now monitor you in public if you are merely exercising your political rights.
They can infiltrate your political organizations.
The government can hold you in preventive detention for months on end as a "material witness."
If you're not a citizen the government can label you an "enemy combatant" and send you to secret prisons around the world, where you may never see the light of day again -- much less a lawyer or a judge. And even if you are a citizen, the government can label you an enemy combatant and hold you in solitary confinement here in the United States.
(End quote)
Now, finally, after the loss of these freedoms and more, people are motivated to object to the ban of some non-Americans entering this country. You have to ask, where have these protestors been since 9/11, when American citizens were losing freedoms right and left?
Maybe, just maybe, fear is not the greatest motivator. Hate may be more powerful!

Enter Maxine Waters. Her greatest desire is to impeach Trump. That's quite a bit stronger than saying a priority is to make sure your candidate wins next time.
And now, she is accusing Putin and Russia are advancing in Korea. I have not been able to find any news of Russian advancements into Korea.
Maybe she can start a bill to sanction Russia over its military advances into Korea.
Let's not forget she also believes that he supplied the bombs that killed women and children in Aleppo. (The horrors of Aleppo were all on President Obama's watch.)
