...See MoreI am looking for activities/games ideas for an outdoor family picnic that will be the class end of the year party. I would like to come up with a theme, but I am drawing a blank when it comes to ideas.
Right now I have a class of preschoolers that will be bringing a picnic lunch to a public playground with their parents/caregivers.
I am looking for some activities to have the kids do with or withing the help of their parents.

A...See MoreOne year I found CHEAP small plastic baskets (full of holes similar to strawberry baskets found at the grocery store) and purchased gallons of bubbles. Students dunk their baskets in the bubbles and lots and lots of bubbles come from the many small holes. I used small tubs to hold the bubbles and set them on the ground it various places.
Also, pipe cleaners can be twisted into any shape and dunk in the empty yogurt container that is now an individual bubbles container.
Eating DIRT cake is always fun. Kids can make their own with chocolate pudding, clear punch cups, Cool Whip, ground Oreos and of course, gummy WORMS! I let the kids ground their own Oreos with three of four in a small baggie. We used the small rolling pins from the Pla-Dough center for our grounding tool.
My grandson's preschool had parents in charge of tables of their choice. She set up a Fishing theme with Goldfish of various colors. She found GO FISH card games for take home gifts. She only had 4 kids at her table.

On 4/10/12, need any/all ideas. Thank you wrote: > I am looking for activities/games ideas for an outdoor > family picnic that will be the class end of the year > party. I am currently working toward an Associate Degree in ECE. I have a project coming up in which I will have to observe two 3 year olds or two 4 year olds. Part of this project is coming up with an activity for them and implementing it with them. Any ideas for an activity for this age range? Or any web sites I could visit to get some inspiration?
I've always liked this web site for quick on the spot suggestions/ideas.
perpetualpreschool.com (check the spelling on that one) is a good one for specific ideas. It's easy to navigate and loaded with all types of activities.
Since you are working with a very small group, I would come up with a simple game to play. Not all kids this age have been exposed to playing games and my have trouble counting spaces. I would made a homemade dice with numbers written on it and only ranging from 1-3.
Or a simple craft that could could do with them. Maybe read a short story, ask some questions, and do a craft from the book. Here I would do the Very Hungry Caterpillar. They might be able to read along after a while and answer questions. Make a butterfly. Coffee filter, water colors (they bleed onto the filter) and shape into wings that are held together by a clothespin.
Read a fun story and then have them act it out as you tell it. Sing some songs that require clapping, standing up, sitting down, etc. Lead them in finger plays, and have them count in English and Spanish.
Role play being kind to each other. Ask for two helpers and have one pretend to fall down and get hurt. Ask the other child to be a friend and help the child up. Ask for two other helpers. One drops a book and the other picks it up. Ask for two more and have one pretend to be the new child, ask the other to be a friend to the new child.
Personally, I like to have the children sit in small chairs in a semicircle. They are more comfortable and they stay out of each other's space.
