Joan/VPK FloridaWe use Houghton Mifflin Pre-K 2006 edition, but there is a 2011 edition called Splash that looks good, too. I believe it has the "rigor" you seek, but leaves enough leeway to plan plenty of fun activities. The program will take care of the reading and math, but you'll need to look elsewhere for the writing/handwriting.
If I put out a list of all my teaching books I am selling for $4 a piece that cover Prek-to 2nd would anyone be interested in purchasing and paying shipping and handling? Most of the books cost at least $16 and up. I also have many childrens books for 50cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardback. Please email if interested in a list.
I am looking for a website that had a song a week that you would teach to your class. I saved the website and my computer crashed. I would like to have it to begin the new school year. Does anyone recall such a site?
I've taken on the project of cleaning and reorganizing my school's monstrosity of a closet, which contains literally everything from snack to manipulatives to books.
I'm struggling to find containers that would be good for storing books, and for a good organization system. We have had them sorted by theme in open bins in the past. However, the books quickly become dusty, and because teachers sometimes disagree on the theme of fiction books, they get shuffled around...making them impossible to find. There is no library list or anything like that, so no one actually knows what books we have - it's a huge mess.
I suggested sorting the nonfiction books by theme, and the fiction books alphabetically by author (just like at the real library), but my director rejected the idea. Regardless of how they are sorted, I am hoping to color-code the books and bins, create a book list for each bin, and get some kind of bins with lids...
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to sort the books, and/or bins that will protect them from dust but keep them organized? I'm at a loss and could really use some help.
readers are all together with red tape ...See MoreThe majority of our books are non fiction. I sorted them according the following groups and used colored electric tape to put in the bottom of the binding.
zoology (the majority of our books) green transportation blue botany brown fiction red cultural (geography, space, history, bio) yellow
readers are all together with red tape picture dictionaries with the readers resource books with same color tape as above books
I have all mine on two 8 feet shelves that I had dividers placed so the books can stand upright and color grouped. The children and the teachers utilize these books. Everyone is responsible for returning the books to their proper places.
I also have a box of my cds and books collection. I have each book and cd with corresponding sticker and number. the cd in cover are in a small basket and the books are in one of those cardboard storage boxes for magazines.
I do have some favorite books that I use each year for special holidays or topics that I keep in my own personal stash to be sure I have them when I need them. There aren't that many but I purchased them myself for my classroom with my own funds.
I don't go by themes as I think those get mixed up and misplaced so that kind of order is not worth the effort to try to keep in place. I can usually page through the books pretty quickly to find the one I need. The teachers work on the honor system when removing books from the main shelves. This system has worked for us many, many years. We get a lot of new books each year and I just put on the tape and add it to the collection.
I work at a program that has 6 weeks to 5 years. We are looking to start a character education program that we can use across our program. We would like to purchase a program for our teachers. Any recommensations?
LeahKelly Bear CARES Program is for children as young as three. Be sure and view the DVDs that are part of the program. There are short segments for each one. Also read about the Kelly Bear books that are included. You can get part of the program or the whole thing.
I'm looking for a new template to make a newsletter this year. I've used the one I've had for the last five years and I'm trying to find something new this year. I have graphics and clip art to ad to the newsletter. Just looking for a new template. If you have one you would be willing to share please send me one at [email removed]
I am looking for a site that has the Frog Street Lesson Plan correlations to the Head Start Framework. I saw it last year and I can't find it again. They were Frog Street lesson plans that come with the program.
