I am looking for a document to give to my instructional assistants so they know exactly what is expected. Does anyone already have one made up that they will let me look at to make sure I am on the right track?

You will discover that this website contains not only common core but many other areas of instruction that will make a teachers job not only easier but also more fun. You will find that going to any one of the three main grade areas a link for teacher’s tool box. This web page has endless information for all grades and all subjects.
I too have always loved teaching Zaner-Bloser’s handwriting instruction [link removed].
You’re in a bit of a pickle! Our job as teachers of children is to make learning as easy as possible. So, since you’re seeing struggles I think it would be best to do what is right for the children and what you feel most comfortable with. Maybe even try to make a fight for the use of Zaner-Bloser in your school system! :)
P.S. Here’s some research resources from the ZB website to help your case! [link removed]
