Has anyone gotten an ECERS review this school year? What is the truth about handwashing? Are they so strict in all the areas? Did they ask lots of questions, and how long did the rater stay in a full day program?

I have had my district observation and will have the observation from my regional training center in January. Hand washing is extremely important. Children must wash hands for 20 seconds (we have a song we sing as they wash). There can be no recontamination (they can not touch sink or faucet after washing hands). My district observer stayed the entire morning (I have 2 half-day sessions). The regional visit will stay all morning, interview me, and then return for afternoon session. Scoring is pretty cut and dry based on the ECERS book/spiral notebook guidelines.

Oh my, I am so sorry I did not respond back (a little over whelmed with the holidays and family issues). Thank you for your input Jeanne and Maureen. Right after I posted my question, the little guy reverted back to the proper grasp (most of the time). He occasionally will use a whole fist grasp, but a quick reminder is all it takes. I did talk with his parent about encouraging the proper grasp and she's on board. :-) Thanks again for your suggestions.
Educator-humorist John P. Wood can relate to the climate-control issues many teachers face in their classrooms. Brrr! Laugh through the shivers. Click below.
Any...See MoreI am presently teaching 3 year olds. I have a very difficult class and no support from my manager. I have looked at other jobs but hate to leave my students since I am now the third teacher they've had this year. So I will "muddle through somehow."
Center time is where a lot of the problem is. They still have the "if I see it, it is mine" mentality. We do a LOT Of role playing about using words and not just snatching toys or knocking down others blocks.
Bathroom time and toothbrushing is rough because they have to sit in the hall and wait their turn. We sing and read stories and do fingerplays but some are crawling all over the place.
I have a couple of runners so we try to keep them close to us at all times.

What are your favorite books to read aloud to your little ones? I like to read a good story to my preschoolers before naptime. I've read The Gingerbread Man, Goodnight Moon, Clifford, Mercer Mayer, Green Eggs and Ham, Llama Llama Red Pajama and now I need some more. What are your faves?

If I use worksheets they are a free choice activity and something like cut and paste.
