It is testing done on computer three times a year...leveled by students as far as ranges for questions. Takes some getting used to for interpretation of scores and dialogue with parents. We have done workshops and department meetings and are learning the process.... NWEA is the site to learn more if interested. It has advantages to show what areas of curriculum need a boost and progress shown in learning through the year from one test session to next to next.
Test process is pretty user friendly for the students. I am at primary level...second grade.
At my school teachers are required to have lunchroom duty every 3 weeks. On some days I don't have a resource until 2:00 so that means I have no break (even bathroom) until 2:00. I'd like to know if this is typical of other private school? Before this I taught in public school and teachers were entitled to a duty-free lunch. Thanks.

If not, I would research the labor laws in your state. That is all I can recommend. I teach in a parochial school, and we get lunch as required by law.

METAt my private school, I serve the students hot lunch. I can eat with them if I wish. Regarding use of bathroom, I assign a responsible student to be in charge so that I may use the facilities and rest of the students are engaged with desk work.
Thinking ahead and wonderimg if anyone has any new ideas for Catholic Schools Week? I read the posts from Jan 09 and some good ideas there, but would like to do something different. We all have to bring suggestions to our next faculty meeting. Thanks much:)
I am a director & co-founder of a Christian Preschool.
I had 2 teachers call in sick today! Thank God that the sub we called in had worked with us befor, knows our mission & loves to help!
I had two 3 year olds crying all morning because their teacher was gone. She has not missed a school day (in the mornings at least) and the kids FREAKED! Most were fine with it though because the sub is great!
On top of that I had 2 parents wanting to negotiate this months tuition because we are closed for a few days this month. For both of these families we are only talking about their child missing 2 days this month! Yet they want me to refund them for those two days!
That was sure fun to deal with with the 2 screaming kids in the background. And both of the screaming kids were ones who's parents I was arguing with. (Gee i wonder if they reolized the arguing with me made their kids more stressed out. I doubt it!)
But the best part was when I did remember why I do this. I was filling in the 3's classroom so the sub could have a break, and the children were playing with ice cubes. It was great to see them smiling & laughing & talking about the ice and having fun while learning!
We have staff meetings 2 times a month durring nap time. That has really helped motivation. I make sure to have the last 15 minutes of the meeting be about what they want to talk about. I dont give out prizes. We dont have the $ to do it. I try to give the teachers extra $ when I can to help with motivation. At the begginning of the school year I gave all my teachers #50 to use for those little things they wanted like seeds, or bubble soap. They can use it how ever they want just show us the receipts after the fact. I also made a point of giving them $ as a gift at Christmas time. My staff seems pretty happy & motivated. We just have 1 that is a problem right now, and she is my closer. So its an issue because I have to stay and close when she doesnt show. SO if someone is out sick in the morning I get to do 3 jobs in 1 day.
I am worn out and my kids are suffering. This too shall pass...need to pray more!!! I still wonder why God called me to do this...today it seems hard...thankfully we are taking tomorrow and the rest of the week off! Thanks for listening! cheryl

I am one of them, but am holding my tongue and turning the other cheek. I would like to mention how I feel when another treats me badly.
Before school even started...after devos, no less, one teacher was totally rude!
Sinful me...wanted to slap her upside the head!
Am praying for patience.
Christian school...I know we are still sinners, but this overt disrespect is terrible. She is not even in charge, but assumes too much. What a personality problem!
Whew...not exactly feeling better because the situation will still exist...but at least I could mention it to, hopefully open minds and hearts who may be experiencing similar situations.
Have a blessed Christmas service...service with a prayer in your heart as I will have in mine.
Jean BullockToo late to do anything about it this year, but for next year, speak to the Principal and ask her or him to say something before the rehearsals about keeping positive and remembering that Christian behavior is expected of the faculty.

This document has a comprehensive list of options. Use it on whatever school you visit
