I am a new teacher at a private Catholic school in Ohio. Does anyone have any information on how to obtain a grant so I can get a Smart Board for my classroom? Every grant I am presented with is for non-religous schools only. Thanks!

Help!! Last year, someone on this board (I think...) had a great bulletin board idea using the word "respect" with a Bible verse to accompany each letter. I used it and loved it last year, but apparently I didn't save the file to re- do fot this year. Does this ring a bell to anyone?? Many thanks.

Cherie FordI love it, however I work in a public school and I'm I'm not afraid to mention God or Jesus Christ at all but I do want to be respectful to others by displaying scripture that is inspirational and does not make others feel as though I am FORCING my belief upon them. We only had half a day. There were only three new students and everyone else was returning from the grade before.
New students came from a private school. New students were boldly talking, talking back and lazy.... The laziness is somewhat understandable after summer vacation of doing recreational activities, but this was ridiculous considering what was asked of them today.... Even getting new books seemed to be a chore to them. The lack of respect was beyond acceptable. These are primary aged children.
I am used to children being a bit shy or reserved and laid back the first day. I hate the thought of having to be the policeman this year. It looks like it is going to be a "bumpy" year.
And I don't like having to (and I have to) be the enforcer from day one.
Oh well...just venting. In retrospect, I've been blessed in the past.
Truly have never had a start to the school year like this one, nor have I had the challenges such as these even during years I subbed.
I can only imagine the report these kids took home that they are going to dislike school and their teacher....
Ah,yes, I should report when things are going well, also. The class is still challenging. Having gotten to know some of the family dynamics, I understand a bit more, perhaps the reasons for some of the lack of respect; etc. from the children.
Teaching in a Christian school, even more than the work in a public school: our work is considered family ministry. It is a lot of pouring out of my resources, most times with little or nothing in return (thanks).
Recently, I tried to help a teacher having a "melt-down" due to this sort of issue. No matter where one teaches, it is important to uplift each other and appreciate each other. When we don't get validation from kids or families, it is important to relate to each other as fellow teachers.
I appreciate having this forum to vent or share with or uplift others!
Thank you for remembering me and the situation and for asking how things are going. :o)

I work at a private school serving students in the middle school with learning disabilities and need a template similar to an IEP to provide to teachers. However, since we are a private school we do not use IEP's so it doesn't make sense to use an IEP software-ugh Any ideas? Feedback appreciated.
I'm new this year, and my first is still in process, but I think once I have it all worked out, it'll work...

In april when we got our contracts, we were told all staff would be receiving 10% pay cuts. Naturally, we were very upset, since our salaries are not that high. We have alwyas had 2 of each grade, K-5, one pre- K. This year we have one K and one 1st grade. The year before the two Kclasses had 10 and 11 students and they said we couldn't do that agiain...luckily one was retiring and the other was ready for a change and took another job. It is very difficult...our first paycheck at this salary is on Sept. 30. It is interesting how your school handled it...it seems only right that all would do the same and no one would ask you to decide that. Our head also shared that she would not ask us to do something she was not willing to do herself. That was reassuring...I hope they will decide to show more leadership and resolve it. I am reassured that this is happening in other places, too, the economy, perhaps. > What I don't like is the 'voluntary at your discretion' - > that's a Horrible Way to go about it. Hi. I was wondering if anyone sings a song for the lunch blessing each day? We have been singing 'God our father, God our father, once again, once again, we will ask the blessing, we will ask the blessing, aamen, aamen.' My first graders want something different as they think this is a baby song.lol
For ...See MoreAfter learning about Johnny Appleseed and seeing the Disney animated story (voiced by Dennis Day), my fourth graders quickly learned the theme song from it. Here are the words:
Oh, the Lord is good to me And so I thank the Lord For giving me the things I need The sun and the rain and the appleseed Oh, the Lord is good to me
For every seed I sow An apple tree will grow And there will be apples there Enough for the whole wide world to share The Lord is good to me Johnny Appleseed.... Amen!
I owe the Lord so much For everything I see I'm certain if, it weren't for him, There'd be no apples on this limb Oh, He's been good to me.
(Actually, they only learned the first and third parts well and usually leave out the middle part.)
