Hello, my name is David, and I have recently begun a teaching internship at private school in my area. I graduated with a BA in History from university, and following my internship I would like to try for a job on the private school job market. I have a question which I am hoping someone could help me with:

The issue that I have is that I make use of a walker/cane, or sometimes wheelchair due to a disability. I have no previous experience in athletics or sports, but I am not against being involved in other extracurricular activities. Would this complicate matters? The reason I ask is that people have always said that History teachers tend to be coaches.

Privateschoolteach David, in my school, the history teacher preps kids for the annual quiz bowl and for mock trial and, of course, attends those events. He does not coach a sport. I participate in other ways.. David:

There are so many other activities you could do. I am a coach and judge for Power of the Pen, and served as a coach for Science Olympiad. Our school does not force anyone "into coaching", which is great. We are expected to do things like playground duty, and I take my kids to science camp. But, that's because I teach science.

Carol To David, with the BA in History: Walker/cane/wheelchair is not an impediment. Are you perhaps looking for a parttime teaching job in a Christian high school?
