At 46 (going to be 47 in April), I have not been able to put aside my passion for earning a math degree. I have a B.A. in Sociology (earned in 1994). However, there is a real yearning in my life for a degree in mathematics that overtakes me everyday. There are two reasons why I do not seek another degree:

1-the age factor 2-my fear of student loans

Pell Grant and TAP will not pay for a second degree. This means, I must take out a student loan. I am afraid of loans. I am also embarrassed to be in a classroom with students much younger than I.

Other Options I have been thinking about it, and just saw in article that Actuarials are one of the hottest jobs out there today. So I think at your age, what you do will depend a lot on what kind of a job/career you want to use a math degree for AND what are the opportunities to do so where you live. So I would suggest that you start with good career counseling...See More
