I am proud of my school district for budget-cutting by having admin each sub 3 days per year. I think it shows some creative thinking and I believe it's a great way for them to learn what's really going on in the classroom (almost).

My sub plans were detailed, but I'm pretty sure I always do that. The kids might have been better (less talkative) than usual--and my #1 huge behavior problem was absent--but I left her plans for a normal day with regular lessons.

I went in early, before going to my meeting, to finish up my report cards. Imagine my surprise when the superintendent walked in at 7:00 a.m. to give herself time to prepare.

All in all, I think it was a good experience for everyone, Judy

dc Saves a $100 per day on sub costs, but it's really just a small dent in the bucket. If each sup covered three days a year and there were 3-4 sups (as there are in our district), then it would only be about $1200.00 in cost cutting for the entire year. Largely symbolic, I imagine, but still valuable for them to remember what a day in the life of a t...See More

judy, how large is the district that the supe can do this?

Carolyn I agree that this wouldn't be a cost-cutting measure, but would certainly show a sign of solidarity from superintendents with the faculty. I know our superintendent would never sub in one of our classrooms. She does visit and have photo-ops, but as far as subbing? NOT! Would be nice, though. I'd love her to see the tiny little closet they have me w...See More
