Remember when this board was visited by "Tom"--he may still be visiting (Hi Tom!)-- and he advocated that we all adopted the Finnish model for school/education reform. I would whole-heartedly agree to that if we could do ALL of the things that Finland does (including no private schools, no hungry children, no unhealthy children), etc. All Finnish children get meals, health care, psychological counseling, and individual school guidance. Here is an interesting article that sheds some light on Finnish school children and why they do so well on those comparative tests. Oh and let's not forget that the teachers are highly educated, highly paid, and highly revered. Wouldn't you just love to teach in that kind of environment?
