more CCSS thinking

I'm still working hard at understanding CCSS. I'm almost done with Calkins' Pathways to the Common Core and it's really helped me a lot. I've always been a Calkins fan and I appreciate the way she breaks down the standards and shows me how to apply them. As I said before, a 6th grade teacher friend and I are working via this book. We had another meeting yesterday and followed Calkins' suggestions for reading an article (linked to the last one we did) in terms of the standards. Because we had 2, we were able to apply the higher standards comparing, etc. We had an excellent discussion and feel like we're getting closer to understanding the reading standards. So next time we're going to try to start building a writing unit of study for argument. I'm excited.

My other teacher friend, who is slated to have a 3-4 combo, and I are going to meet again tomorrow to start looking at the trajectory of standards with the goal of figuring out some kind of curriculum for 3-5. We're trying to...See More
