I have to do a presentataion for K-1 parents on how to help their children with reading at home. Any ideas? Also, since the session is 55 long, I would like to do a make/take for the ELL parents. Any ideas? What has worked well with you?
At a previous school we used AR/Reading Renaissance to promote and reinforce reading and comprehension with the AR program/points. It is not available at my school now. Can anyone recommend viable alternatives?
I am teaching two 7th grade special ed students (struggling readers...approx 5th grade level). What are some good activities or lessons to teach inferencing. I would like them to be able practice and then apply what they know while they read. Thank you.
Picture book called Goodbye Book by Judith Viorst. It only has the words of the child, so I have my students fill in the words of the parent based on what the child says.
Grocery receipts and shopping lists allow students to infer what meal is going to be made, or if the person has kids, or eats a lot of junk food, etc. Ask the students to bring in receipts and comic strips.
Mystery Bags-put items in a brown paper bag that have a theme and the students have to figure out who this bag belongs to.
Mom on the go: keys, granola bar or other snacks, baby wipes, cell phone, shopping list, etc.
Business man: cell phone charger, fancy pen, lunch take-out receipt or menu, resume or other papers, paper clips, etc.
LMHas anyone taken the Praxis and found a study guide they can recommend? Saw mention of many guides that are either outdated or do not contain reliable informaion on another chatboard, so I am still trying to see if there is a reliable one.
I completely agree that one of the main priorities as a teacher is making sure students take academics seriously. A cartoon and unique animation will get the children involved in listening. Great idea
