My son's 4th grade teacher is playing music during reading time for the 2 days of school so far this year. He told me he cant concentrate on his reading with the music playing. I told him to ask the teacher to stop playing music if it bothers him. He asked on the 2nd day and she told him at others like it and wouldnt cut it off. Does anyone else play music like this and if a kid asked to stop it because it bothered them should she cut it off? Am I being unreasonable to ask her to stop it?

Lydie I couldn't read something and expect to retain anything if the TV or if music (instrumental or vocal) is playing, and I don't have ADD or anything like that. I can read a magazine or light fiction with no problem, but if I were to try and read an accounting text or my stats book, forget it. I don't know how a beginning reader can concentrate.

I don't recall ever reading research about applying Barouque to reading. The OP never stated wha...See More

Pam I would love a link for the music you use. I've thought about doing this and have read research on it. I want something I don't have to change, but can just leave on throughout the day. Thanks.
