Hello! I am teaching language arts to a group of fourth and fifth grade special education students. Their ability levels range from below preschool, to about second grade. For Language Arts, they usually just have a story read aloud to them. I am trying to follow up the stories with some activities. As a student teacher I have to stick to the format they already use in the classroom... so these have to be activities that don't involve worksheets or projects. For instance, so far I have done a lesson on using context clues to figure out new words, a character map describing a character, a Venn diagram comparing two books, a sequencing activity to retell a story using sequencing cards, a story map, a discussion of whether a particular legend could be true or not true, and a KWL chart.

The supplies I have available to me are a white board, a large pad of paper, and whatever I can make at home.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
