I am trying to learn more about Basal Reader and how it is used and works in the classroom. My main questions are: Do you use a Basal Reader in your classroom why or why not? and What grade do you teach? Thank you for any imput.
I need to train teachers in grades 3-5 on using the F&P benchmark assessment kit. I have about 2 hours... Has anyone developed a training plan or training resources that they would be willing to share? I would really appreciate any help!!!
I am in Idaho and have found the lesson maps at the New Mexico Reading First website in the past. The website is no longer available. Does anyone know where I can download the Grade 1 Lesson Maps for Harcourt Trophies 2003? I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

I would love to know too! I have them saved from Kinder, but am now teaching 2nd grade. I will post if I find them.
I was wondering if I could get a copy of the ones from kindergarten. I have all the maps for the first and second volume but not for the third. Is there any way I could get a copy from you?
thanks wendi

New to first gr. and don't have many reading resource books...have daily 5 and cafe but looking for one that really breaks down the skills in a simplified way. I want guided grps to be fun and exciting for them. My school uses reading a-z books...hope this will be good:)
If you have a second grader who maxes out the accuracy on the BAS,Level N do you use system 2 level L or level M? Has anyone ever heard of having the students read the assessment books until they max out of accuracy and ignore the comprehension?
Don't move them on beyond their level of comprehension....
IMHO

Never ignore comprehension. I am a literacy coach trained by Irene Fountas and her team. My own daughter is in third grade and can read up to level T with 100% accuracy, but when it comes to comp. she is instructional at level P. I would never give her a book to read that she doesn't understand.
If the student has 100% accuracy on level N, you need to do comp score to get instructional level. You need to refer to the chart in the BAS Guide to score the child. It is very important to take them to frustration to get their highest instructional level. But comp., and fluency for that matter (especially at level N), will play a big part of what level you stop at. Good luck :)
Teachers, I love to make big books with my children in the classroom. I have partnered with a company and have blank big books for sale. Amazing ideas to share for books/ blog and website coming soon
Has anyone ever used Ebooks to help students with their reading? I've read that they have kid-friendly tools such as highlighting paragraphs or the book actually reading it aloud and I was wondering if any teachers have used the Ebooks in the classroom yet and if so, how it went.

I think that the use of ebooks in the classroom would be fun. I would use it mainly for middle to high school grades though.
I have to do a 55 minute parent presentation for ELL parents. Any ideas? Also, since the session is 55 minutes, I would like to do a make/take. Any ideas that have worked well for you. This is for K-1 parents.
Has anyone taken the Praxis and found a study guide they can recommend? Saw mention of many guides that are either outdated or do not contain reliable informaion on another chatboard, so I am still trying to see if there is a reliable one.
