Recently I was asked to inventory the whole department's supply of Hot Plate Stirrers. Many of them are very old and we had to test to see if the hot plate and magnetic stirrers still worked. We quickly found that half the hotplates no longer had spinning magnetic capabilities. After taking the four screws out of base, I gained access to the four screws that held the hot plate on. Removing these screws gave me access to the spinning magnet. In every case the adhesive to the magnets had come off and the magnets couldn't spin. Lightly sanding the rusty metal that the magnets should have been glued onto, provided a clean surface to reglue the magnets on. I used "crazy glue" to glue the magnets. After drying I reassembled and tested them. Each worked like they should.
