Here is a question I have about common core. Can somebody tell me the difference between a common core lesson on cells and a pre-coomon core lesson on cells

Common sense not CC Anyone who doesn't know that Common Core and NGSS are coming out of the same roach motel is a fool. Common Core has come under such blistering criticism that eventually it will be renamed. Common Core has come under such blistering criticism that eventually it will be renamed. NGSS are called such to distance the "standards" from Common Core, when if fact it is the same shoddy product of Achieve. The goal from the onset has been to get every teacher on the same page, on the same day, on the same script. Professional Learning Communities are just the mid-level police force to put the structure into place. As soon as the CC standards are in place, and the script is in place with teachers handing over their collaborative lessons to the PLC's, then teachers will be interchangeable. If you don't read the script, we can easily replace you with someone who will. Most of the supt's and admins are puppeteers. Follow the money. Bill Gates didn't invest billions into buying our schools because he has respect for teachers and their special role in student's lives. Funny that his own children aren't in public schools with word walls and junk fads. He is investing in a factory. Gates' view is that teaching is outdated and ineffective when students could be taught one-on-one by a computer. Dream with me about what schools could look like if his billions had been invested in innovative, dynamic teaching instead of trying to force fads like PLCs and excessive testing down everyone's throat. Common Core encompasses a biased, poorly written set of standards with a progressive philosophy of students teaching each other in project-based groups while the teacher has little more role than to float around the classroom. Our students deserve better. If you are reading this check out the National Opt out movement or the Texas Opt Out site to see how highly informed ordinary moms and dads are to the "transformation" of our schools. There is no love there for Common Core. It is a great place to get informed and feel the pulse of the resistence movement.

Your original statement "Think common core is not a curriculum, check out engageny." implies that CC is a curriculum. It is not.

I am not going to lie and pretend that forcing our students to be a number on a data-driven conveyor belt is going to produce outstanding scientists or mathematicians. In fact, state testing has been around for over thirty years and what has all the data-driven instruction accomplished? Well, it has made billions for Pearson. Yes, I hope I get followers to stand with me in denouncing the takeover of education. I stand for teachers and what they can do in a students life if allowed to design instruction and carry out authentic learning. I encourage anyone reading this to read about Professor Stroup from the University of Texas who testified honestly and openly about state testing. Wake up teachers. People are speaking out and if we don't stand together against the fads and brainwashing we will lose our profession. There is still time to reclaim our precious public schools.
