We are being asked to keep a data binder/journal with our second graders. Does anyone do this? What kind of datat/graphs do you keep in it? Thanks for your help.

arent involvement in schools has traditionally been carried out by mothers. Yet boys and girls need positive, male role models. When fathers take an active role in education, schools report an increase in student achievement. [Click below for 10 specific ways to draw fathers into an active role in their children's education.]

Their philosophy helped me get over my attitude towards learning centers. It also helped me figure out how to set up centers in my classroom.
I am usually overwhelmed with details. Choosing centers needed to be something that didn't need a lot of prep, but were good learning tools and would promote student success on the "test."
I have 30 children and they are at very different levels and as usual, I have a very busy class this year.
My six centers are Listening, Reading (RC and silent reading), SRA kit, Writing, Word Work and Mountain Language. I change my writing prompt once a week, and turn my Mountain Language cards once a week. The listening center DVD gets changed once a week as well.
I work with individuals or small groups while the students are at centers. I divided my students into Lexile level reading groups and then put them in behaviorally balanced center groups.
I got premade "puzzle pieces" and gave the students a color, their center group, and put a number on each piece (1-6) for their reading with me. Students work at 2 centers for about 20 minutes each, three days per week. I have the centers identified on a pocket chart, and both centers are posted on the chart.ie, yellow and orange do listening today. Yellow first and orange second. I keep a timer with me and off we go.
As you can see, I am not working on individual stamina, etc. I just was too impatient for that (my bad) but will probably give some of it a chance again.
Early one morning, Wilbur the pig peered up at the corner of the hayloft. He was accustomed to seeing his friend Charlotte, the “large gray spider the size of a gumdrop,” presiding over her tidy, circular web. But today something looked different. The words “Some Pig – FAQ” were neatly woven into the center of her web in 14 point Palatino type. [Click below to read the rest.]
I want to get started with whole brain teaching in my classroom. I need to know how to get started. I've looked at a couple of videos on youtube but have had difficulty with the whole brain teaching website. How would you suggest a newbie get started? Do you have a suggested schedule to introduce the 5 rules? Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
Begin by teaching the Core 4. Once you and your kids understand these basic tools you can literally teach anything with WBT.
Core 4: Class-Yes! Teach-OK! Mirror! The Scoreboard Game.
Teach these in the order shown. It is REALLY important to remember that there is no race to the end or time limit here. Only introduce elements as you get comfortable with them.
Start here, join the website for free and ask questions there. There is a Facebook page for your grade level also.
Feel free to ask me questions as well. I am a trainer for WBT
