I would like to incorporate morning meeting into my classroom next year and was going to purchase the morning meeting book. For those who do morning meeting, do you recommend the responsive classroom book or is there another book that you like better? I only have enough funds to purchase one. Thanks in advance for your help.

GretaRebecca, I have also made the scrapbooks in the past and even printed out pictures of my students from the year. I think my last order of pictures was about 600 at about $80. I have also decided I will try to go digital this year.
JohnI never have used it and don;t know much about it. Share please when you find out.

Teachers, I work in a private school and we are ready to purchase Math curriculum. We are trying to decide between Saxon Math and Everyday Mathematics. Any opinions about either one?
We have used Saxon in the past but have just switched to the new version of Moving With Math. I happen to have preferred Saxon but our school district removed it from the "approved" curriculum list. We can only use it as a supplement now.

My school has had Everyday Math for two years. We have seen Math scores on the NWEA tests rise over those two years. At all grade levels, EDM is aligned to Common Core. We have found, however, that you really need the manipulative kits, the game kits, Internet access to the EDM website, etc. There is a lack of basic fact practice, but a deeper understanding of the reasons behind much that we used to learn by rote practice. EDM also renames certain procedures which didn't need to be renamed. EDM gives several different ways to solve even simple math operations, which is a major point in its favor, since not every child's brain works the same way. EDM has workbooks K-5 which need to be reordered each year. Saxon has daily worksheets K-3 which need to be reordered each year, and permanent hard bound books for 4 and 5. EDM has hard-bound student reference books, which show how and why things work, and which the students can look at before asking for teacher assistance. Overall, if I had to make the choice, and I had all the manipulatives I needed, I'd choose Everyday Math, and begin each Math class with a fact practice minute.

Would like to host a math night for parents/kids to teach games parents could do at home with their children. Interested in any game ideas you may have for us. Thanks in advance!
Tell parents to drill their kids on times tables at the dinner table using flash cards. They can take the entire year to do it. They'll never regret it.
