Second Grade Teachers Chatboard

Reassignment to 2nd

I have taught K for 10 years, and my principal is reassigning me to 2nd. I am not very happy about it. I taught 2nd grade from 1988-1990, so I know it is very different since I use most of my teaching resources now. I may look at transferring schools to stay in K, but, if I went along with the reassignment, I'd embrace it for the kids. Where would I start to get prepared? I am a NBCT, but I will be overwhelmed - all of my units,file, and materials are geared for K.

Leanne/CA Find your state standards (or Common Core, if that's what your state is using) on the internet, and go from there. 2nd graders are MUCH more mature than Ks. You can do so much more with them, but they are still young and still like their teacher!

2nd I have been reassigned as well to 2nd. I have taught this grade 12 years ago. Our grade level is going to get together this summer to discuss our plans for the fall. I am going to bring a jump drive to copy numerous files from the teachers. I am also going to review the Common Core State Standards for 2nd grade.

Terri in CA I just got a job teaching 2nd grade in the fall. I haven't taught 2nd grade in 11 years. All of my resources are gone because I have been several different places since then! kdw I have taught K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th. Second grade is by far my very favorite grade to teach. I am currently teaching 2nd grade. Check out this link for 2nd grade blogs.
