How do you have your students' desks arranged in the classroom? I started out with two groups of twelve desks facing each other with the white board at the end. Then I had all the desks facing the white board arranged in rows going across in groups of 2 to 4 desks with a big aisle down the middle. One source tells me that the first arrangement is good for collaboration among students. Another source tells me the second way is better because it shows students that they should direct their attention towards the teacher. I'm confused....which way do you think is better? How much collaboration do 2nd graders need? I feel kids just play around during this time instead of working with their peers. What is your opinion?
