I have a very large class of over 30 students (2nd grade). In this class I have three students who have medical issues that require them to be able to use the bathroom and get drinks anytime they need to (I have doctor's notes). My rule is always that if someone is presenting a lesson you have to wait until it's work time to use the restroom. With these kids, I cannot do that! So what I have is a constant parade of bathroom breaks in the middle of lessons, because all the other kids suddenly HAVE to go, too. The longest amount of time they have between recess breaks is about 90 minutes, and usually I give them all the chance to go about halfway through that block. I am going to go stir-crazy trying to manage this year! They are all sitting and waving their fingers in the air making the potty sign while I am presenting, so they aren't learning a darn thing. HELP!
Addie/mo Can you make a pass that hangs in your room? When kids have to go, they don't ask and interrupt the lesson, but simply get up quietly, get the pass, put it on their desk, go to the restroom, return to class and put the pass away. tkteach Over the years I've had many "Frequent Flyers" needing/wanting to go to the hall bathroom during lessons and independent work time. Many who just wanted a break or to get out of work. Once I am sure it isn't a medical need, I give these children 3 tickets each day. (The kind of tickets used for raffles.) The children can use them any time they need...See More
