Google "Tree Octopus" and the first site is a great place to show kids that you can't always trust what you read. It is made up information about a tree octopus. It has pics and everything. I was told that only about 2 percent of students would question it.

This site is incorrect info too. Click on the teachers button and they share ideas how to use to site. Have your children see if it makes sense that Columbus was born in 1951 in Australia.
This Web site covers all of the K-12 resources developed by the National Library of Medicine. Many of these resources are for the general consumer, but make great research resources for students and teachers.
A really good website to try out, especially for tips on supplies, etc. is Scholastic.com. Become a fan on facebook too and there are some really neat stories that come through.
This is my very favorite site for assistance in teaching the six traits. Its a bit cumbersome, but it has great ideas and my kids love the writing lessons I have used or adapted from it.
I just learned about this great website at a workshop this week. It is My Fake Wall. Kids can create a page on it that looks exactly like a Facebook page. So they can make one on a book character or famous historical person. I think my students will love it!
This is a fabulous site! I love to use it to introduce new concepts. Short animated cartoons featuring Tim and Moby explain concepts in math, science, history, literature, writing...you name it. Very reasonably priced, built in quizzes, available in spanish and aligned to state standards. Best of all kids really enjoy it
