I teach computer lab (Grades 3 - 6) in Massachusetts. Does anyone have a recommendation for an effective computer program that will help prepare students for the MCAS (ELA and Math)?

Hi Carol, I saw your question about computer programs that could help prepare for the MCAS. I would love for you take a look at our website. The company is called Study Island. We have over 55,000 students now using our programs in Massachusetts and about 3,600 teachers! The Study Island programs have proven to be a valuable tool for students, teachers and administrators--and, have really filled a need here in MA. The great thing about our programs is that they are truly user-friendly, flexible and fun! Because Study iscompletely online, a student can work on the programs anywhere there is an internet connection. Check out our website at [link removed].
I tried to take a class two semesters ago in which I was to know about united streaming, but I am not comfortable with livetext. Can someone ease my mind about this, because I can't complete my homework without knowing the process?
I like application software because it has helped me in History and English classes. The one I chose to work with most of the time is drill and practice software package.
Does anyone out there have an effective computer program or Web site that helps students in Grades 3 - 6 write open responses (both ELA and Math)? Thanks!

EDU-Nix aims to provide U.S. Public Schools with Open-Source alternatives to expensive proprietary software products. The project will consist initially of a redistributable CD that has both a live CD environment, as well as Windows versions of the office and productivity programs.

Now that's what I like to hear! I play a big role in selecting media for the programs, so it is always nice to hear about kids enjoying the software. We recently released three new reading comprehension titles for grades 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7 that you may be interested in. I would be happy to mail you our latest catalog if you send me a message including your name and mailing address. Feel free to contact me should you have any comments, suggestions or questions regarding Essential Skills.

I need your help! I am looking for math software/website that I can utilze with my struggling (in 5th grade but on a 2nd grade math level) math learners. I want something that tracks their progress and lets me monitor what they are doing. Of course it must be CHEAP.

Hi Michelle
I work for Essential Skills. We develop early reading and math software. We have a number of math programs for students in grades K-4. The titles in our math series cover all the basic strands for each grade level. The media is appropriate for a range of grade levels, making them suitable for children of various ages. They are often used for remediation, as they appeal to older students. All of our programs include a tracking system that allows you to monitor student progress. They are a little more expensive than what you might find on the shelf at Wal-Mart, but they are far more comprehensive and an excellent value. You can receive a free 45 day evaluation if you order through your school. I realize this sounds like a sales pitch, but I firmly believe in these products and I think the fact that they are used in over 10,000 schools adds some credibility to my claim of their effectiveness. I hope this is helpful. Keep up the great work!
