Does anyone currently use a Text to Speech software program? I am interested in finding a program to use in a Co-Teaching classroom to diversify instruction strategies.
I am currently getting my masters in elementary ed. and i am taking a computer tech class right now and was hoping for some insights from some experienced teachers. I was wondering what you think the best software out there is for grades 1-6 (any subjects) and how do you use them in your classrooms. Do you think that it enhances the learning experiences of the students. Is using the educational software a positive experience. I would definately appreciate any insights that you can offer to me.
Hi :) Just wanted to give you some possible insight. In our school district, we have to use the "Accelerated" programs i.e. Accelerated Reader/Accelerated Math. The Accelerated Reader program helps the students with the concept of reading comprehension. The Accelerated Math program helps to keep them refreshed on their Math Skills throughout the year! The biggest advantage that it has is the "goal" system, which provides an individual goal for each student so to meet by year's end. We have found this program to be extremely beneficial in the academic growth of our students. Hope this helps you! Good Luck to you! Melanie Diaz Highland Elementary Second Grade

It sounds terific and the fact that it sets goals for the individual students can motivate the students.Theres nothing more important to helping a student learn than getting them motivated!Motivation enhances learning and creativity which hekps the student generalize better. What good is learning a new skill if they can not apply it to other situations. This also sounds like something that would help children with learning disabilities get on track. With a pre0arranged goal this will help monitor progress and keep the student focused.

I am writing this message to see if anyone has any similar problems that I do in my classroom? I have an extremely DIVERSE class. I have students that have academic abilities that vary from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade!! Finding activities that meet the needs of such a diverse class has truly been a challenge? Any suggestions?

Match up some of your more challenged students with your more advanced students when working in groups or one-to-one. The advanced students learn much more when they have to reiterate and the challenged students are learning by their peers with whom they have a closer connection. This works very well with reading groups. At our school, the younger students go to their "buddy" classroom for a "book share." It promotes a friendly environment when they see each other in the hall or at lunch.
Have you used the reader's and writer's workshop model? I see it working well with a variety of learners. Look into the work of Stephanie Harvey, Debbie Miller, Katie Wood Ray etc.. I would also like to suggest the company joyful noise. I teach at a multi-age school and we use math programs that kids do independently and progress at their own level in addition to the small group instruction. Have you also thought of buddying up with another teacher to possible share kids so that groupings can be together at least for part of the academic day for example: one teacher take all kids at K-2 levels for a subject while the other takes 3-5.
does anyone on here have any contacts or suggestions on a company or consultant that I can hire to advise me on setting up a SCORM based distance learning system?
How do you compare this software with the TELE-Web which I heard many teachers talking about a lot. And how much is the price?

D.I.V.E cds . . . I bought one and LOVE the format. I want to be able to make one. They show a digital chalkboard with moving chalk and the user hears a teacher's voice but does not see a teacher.
Does anyone know how I can learn how to make a video clip or cd in this format?
Sorry if any of this is repetitive of other posts. This is my first time on the board. I spend most of my time at the math chatboard.
I am reading "Word Smart for the GRE."
Is this software part of the same company (The Princeton Review), or is this something entirely different? I don't want to be scammed or unprepared for my GRE! I was thinking of purchasing some software to help me increase my vocabulary. Any recommendations in light of this whole discussion?

Math Blaster 6-8 is good for grade 2. It could probably work
for grade 1 at the end of the year.
Millie's Math House is good for Kindergarten and PreK.
