I have just accepted a position at a new school. I have been told the teachers are expected to use WEB CT. I have never had any dealings with this, and I was wondering if I could get some info from someone who has... what exactly do you use it for? What have you found that works/ doesn't work with it? Do the kids use it?
Also, I've been told I will have a digital projector attached to a "write board" which was described as a "hand- held smart board" that would allow me to interact with whatever was being projected on the screen. Does anyone else use one of these?
Any guidance/advice/insight you could give me would be great.

I can't believe that a district would expect you to use any of these programs without training. WEB CT and Blackboard have merged recently. I would suggest going to those websites and looking under either demos or training. You can do the same thing with the Smartboard website, if that is who make the "write board". You can also check your local superintendent of schools office for training classes during the summer. I live in California and our office offers everything from basic Word to advanced whatever you need. It might be good to participate in outside training anyway because I often find the in school technology programs are pretty watered down. For example, in our district most of the teacher use the Smartboard as a giant white board.
I saw a classified ad on here for LoopWriter software and downloaded the demo. To my surprise the card game (I have, Who has?) can be written in English, Spanish, French and German. I ordered it two days later and I love it. You can find it at [link removed]
Enjoy, Kathryn

Hey all, after spending the last 10 yrs in 3rd grade, I am moving to technology teacher for 30 second and third grade classrooms. They will come to lab one day a week for yet to be determined amount of time! Too many classrooms only 1 lab. Are there any technology teacher mailgroups out there or web sites that would be useful? Thanks to all!!!

The NECC conference is this summer and early bird registration is through the end of this month (March).
I have always been able to copy and paste a piece of clipart from Word into Paint to edit it (remove bits, change colors, etc) but now all of a sudden when I cut it out of Word and try to paste it into Paint, all I get is the "frame" around the picture and the inside is blank...just a black box where the image should be. Why is this happening, does anybody know?
Fully Automated Online Quizzes/Tests/Exams. You enter your own questions (Mutiple Choice, Fill-In-The-Blanks, True Or False and Short Answer), the points, time to answer. Then schedule a test to all your students/friends. The student clicks on the link and starts the timed test/exam. The student can login later to view the results of all tests/exams taken. You can also display a test/exam on your website.

Yes, indeed. This website looks like it will be a very helpful resource to help teachers input questions, create tests and track scores for students.

I'm an artist , but I've been interested in working in the educational software field and/or children's television. Any tips? Do you know of any companies? Especially those that might be in central texas or texas in general.

My advice would be to put together a portfolio of your work that you can show. It could even be something that you email. Once you have something that you can show people, try contacting some educational software publishers and asking them if they are looking for an illustrator. You may have difficulty finding a full time position as an illustrator, but I'm sure that you can find plenty of commission work. I work for an educational software company, and we have an illustrator that we sometimes use to create custom illustrations for our programs. Illustrators are great because their work gives a nice consistent look to a program. Good luck!
