has anyone used the UBoost program in their classrooms? It's supposed to be a really good program that is working with weekly reader. I'm hearing the kids read the weekly reader online, take quizzes, and can even get cool rewards! There's a free trial till December so i was just wondering if anyone has tried it before!

We use it as an optional after-school supplement. My kids like it and particularly like using the points to decorate their virtual rooms

Yeah, the kids really seem to enjoy the virtual room feature! It shows that there are levels in the virtual room, but how do you get to the next levels?
Anyone who hasn't tried it yet, go to Uboost.com and sign up, it's a free trial till december!
i got an email from a couple of people saying that they liked the new UBoost program, so I signed up for it and gave it a try. This new program is teamed up with weekly reader and gives you the option to choose the topics that your students read. They have things such as News, Current Science, Read, and Current Events. The site is very easy to use and you as a teacher can get your class signed up in about 30 minutes. Right now there is a free trial going on till December so it's a good chance to see if it's something that can be used in your classroom. After you sign up, each student gets a username and password which he/she uses to access the magazine and takes a quiz on what they have read. When taking the quizzes, they receive points that they can use to get all sorts of cool prizes(varies in different states)! As a teacher you have access to your students accounts to see how each of them are doing. I encourage you all to take up this free offer. Just go to Uboost.com!!!
Thanks for your response! I am not sure how to move up the different levels, but if I can figure it out, I'll let you know!
Thanks!!

Hello, just wondering if anyone knows of a program/certificate the teaches you how to teach ESL online? I currently teach ESL during the day to young students and at night to adults. I would love to start my own online tutoring/teaching ESL business...just need the tools.
I know TESOL.org has a certificate program. Have any of you taken courses for teaching ESL online thought TESOL? Do you know of any other programs?

Based on my previous experience, I do not think you need a certificate alway when you go online teaching.
The most important part is that you know how to set up online teaching.
First, you need to have a website or course management system. I am currently use Moodle for such a purpose. It is ope n source and free. [link removed]
For creating online course, I use some online teaching tools. If your are familiar with PowerPoint, you can use a PowerPoint to SCORM course converter to convert PowerPoint to SCORM course. For testing, you can turn to some online quizzing program like QuizCreator.
Do you use an electronic whiteboard in your classroom (smartboard, vboard etc)? We are looking for tips and tricks from teachers for a new book on "How to" for teachers of various subjects. If you have great ideas or know of any good software programs, web sites etc. to use with a digital whiteboard please let me know. If we choose to use your tips/articles/ lesson plans for our book we will pay you of course.
If you are successfully using a digital whiteboard in your classroom you might be interested in this. We are looking for presenters for a hands on work shop for schools and districts on how to use interactive whiteboards for various subjects. Interested? please email to [email removed]
Just curious as to any plans your district may have for handling the Vista issues and educational software. So far my district realizes this will be a problem but I'm not sure the vendors are recognizing this...
please take a moment to look at Class Commander, a world-class grades and attendance system developed by this teacher as a replacement for Chancery Egrades and K12Planet.
Develop your tests in minutes - automatic test scoring and posting directly to your gradebook
It is the easiest to use full function class management tool available today - period!
Does anyone use keyboarding practice with their 1st and 2nd graders? If yes, can you suggest a good program for this? I've seen Type to Learn, Jr. and then saw there is also Type to Learn Jr. New Keys for Kids. What would you say are the main differences between the two programs?
I currently use Type to Learn 3 with my 3rd and 4th graders and am happy with it.
Online: I created a website with typing games for my after-school group to use.
Over the years it's grown and now has over 50 typing games! It's a kid-safe site -- I work hard to ensure that when links go to outside pages, those pages don't have inappropriate ads or links to non-educational games, and I update the site regularly.

Also, I just put up a unit on internet safety, with instructional video and an online quiz,
Those old versions will run fine on modern Windows computers if you download the patch that the publisher has on their website. I did this for a computer lab and got great software for around $5 a pop, though it was extra work to install the patch.
