I am a university student in the UK studying Games Development and Artificial Intelligence. My big final year project is coming up and I want to create an educational game for school children. I think kids in the age range of 7-9 will be old enough to be able to play a simple game on the PC.
At this stage that is really all the idea I have and I am looking for suggestions. Any thoughts about what kids are learning at that age, what topics are hard to teach or difficult for some kids to pick up, etc would be great.
Also, any input you can offer about games you or your students have tried before and whether they were entertaining or not and whether or not the kids learnt anything from them is also fantastic.
I'd like to build up a few concepts of different styles of game that teach different subjects in different ways.
2. Check color and contrast so that it is easy on the eyes and not to busy.
3. Make it easy to navigate and not too time consuming.
Good luck : )Amy from Ohio : )

Does anyone use Pixie by Tech4Learning? I've seen demos and it seems to combine KidPix and Kidspiration. I'd love to add it to our software. Just don't have lots of funds and wondered what people thought of it.
Mucho Math is an online math resource to help students build math vocabulary and basic math skills. You can create a teacher account and add one student for free to try it out. Additional students cost $1 each. The program is ideal for ESL students as well as 2nd/3rd grade students.

Its a performance DVD about bullying. The main element of the DVD is the music video with the anti-bully song. The children watch this video and that in itself opens up discussion on the subject but then once that has been done the children can then learn the song themselves because on the DVD are versions of the Music Video with the vocals removed in different musical keys so the children can then perform the song themselves for a school play or in assembly etc. The children can perform onstage their own version with the video imagery playing in the background. There are also animations on the dvd talking about the subject explaining what to do if you think your being bullied in school with 14 pre prepared lessons plans that come with the dvd and it is now available for license throughout the uk. Current websites showing my work are.... Kidscape, Teaching Ideas, Teaching News, TEC,Teaching Videos. Feel free to check it out and if you'd like to know more by all mean email me and i will be glad to do that for you. Thanks Hope you enjoy mu work. Johnny :)
I am interested to know the extent to which teachers are using Microsoft Office or other programs to create curriculum. (Lesson plans, presentations and other resources.) Anyone still enjoy building the ideal lesson module?
