I had students coming in at lunch to use Quarter Mile by Barnum Software. They compete against their own best times and drill through hundreds of levels of math problems. I am not affiliated with this company, but I love their product. [link removed].
Hello everone! I am currently working on my masters degree thesis and was hoping you could help me out! One of my research questions is as follows:
Are there any new software programs or advanced firewalls that can prevent students from roaming inappropriate sections of the Internet?
Any information you have to offer me would be great! My masters degree is in education with a focus on integrating technology in the classroom. Next year will be my fourth year teaching. I have been assigned a 6th grade core laptop position. I will be teaching history and english at a middle school by implementing technology. All of my students will have their own laptop and learn by utilizing the Internet and popular software programs. If you have favorite software or firewall material, please let me know about it. You may want to include information such as if the firewalls are school wide or district wide. Does your district have an AUP? Are teachers and parents familiar with it? ect... Thanks so much!
Hi. I'm just wondering how I can effectively let the kids have time to practice their keyboarding skills and at the same time have enough time to teach them how to use Microsoft office, the internet, let them work on projects etc? Do the kids practice their KB every time they come in for 10-15 min or they just do it for a quarter? Another question... There are free keyboarding games and exercises online, so do I really need to purchase a typing software?
BTW I teach computer from K-8. Each class comes in once a week for 40 min.
I have the classes use Type To Learn 3 for the first 10 or 15 minutes and then we do the lesson. The kids know the routine and although they hate keyboarding they know it is expected each time they come to lab.I also use keyboard covers to encourage correct usage of homekeys.
Hi, I am in a very similiar situation. I use have used Typing Master and Type to Learn since beginning as the computer teacher. This year I found Dance Mat Typing, this free program is used in the United Kingdom and is wonderful. I have third graders typing wonderfully. The students enjoy it so much that they do it at home.
You can find it by searching for Dance Mat Typing or using this link: [link removed]
If you have a chance let me know if you enjoy the characters, voices, and personalities as much as we do here in New Jersey.

I have never posted on this board before, but I have a problem and I hope someone here can help me. I teach first grade at my school. I am also the SYSOP. Today I went to school to update some computer stuff before the other teachers return. One thing I wanted to do was to promote all our students in Accelerated Reader. I realize that when it promotes them in AR, it also promotes them in STAR. After I went through the wizard to promote the students in AR, it asked for the STAR administrator password. When I submitted it, I got an error message that said it was the wrong password. However, it was not the wrong password. I did this several times. I restarted the computer. I tried it on a different computer. I ran AR Doctor and STAR doctor. Nothing worked. Does anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong? Or is there something wrong with our Accelerated Reader? Should I call a technician to come look at it?

It resets something that gets out of whack. I used to carry all these sorts of things on my flash drive, but re-formatted it this spring.
I work for Essential Skills. We develop early reading and math programs for K-6. We offer a number of Kindergarten level programs that are fully compatible with OSX. A few of our Kindergarten titles include, Phonemic Awareness, Super Phonics, Sight Words, Mastering Numeration and Measurement. You can receive a free 45 day evaluation if you order through your school. You can also visit our website and read thousands of testimonials from other educators. I hope this helps.
