Any suggestions on how to differentiate for students who speak enough Spanish at home that they can get bored with the 1st level classes as far as vocabulary but still need the spelling & grammar lessons?
At our school, the heritage speakers are usually placed in Spanish 2 because Spanish 1 is too basic for them. That way they fill in the gaps with their past tenses and start learning to use written accents, etc.
For more proficient speakers, we offer native speakers 1 and 2/AP Literature.
Daniel HansonIn Mexico, there is the use of "blanquillos", which refers to 'eggs'. It's a very informal term.

We are considering adoption of new textbooks. The HMS "Avancemos" program is at the top of the list. Does anyone have any experience with this textbook/program? Thanks

Does anyone use VHL Descubre series? I have read great reviews and I like their videos a lot and I can see CLEARLY they provide lots of activities. The downside is the series targets college kids, so some esoteric vocabulary and the sequencing is not what it could be for high school.
Does anyone have input on Asi Se Dice? We like the pacing for HS but I cant seem to figure out their technology--lots of white board for teacher-show which is not impressive to me because I need my kids doing it, not me. Other than that they have many print workbooks but I need iPad friendly digital work for my student.
My school district started using it district-wide this year. I have liked it. I like being able to assign extra and create new assigments. Also, the tests and quizzes can be modified. Tech support has been pretty good for me.
The amount of material can be overwhelming. I recommend using the alternate pacing guide (where there are 6 chapters for level).

I would like to set my students up with pen pals in another country. Is there a site I can go through or maybe you know of a school that I can contact? Thanks?
Are you interested in doing a bit of service learning as well? If so, I can hook you up. I work with rural schools in Southern Mexico. We build schools and teacher's quarters, provide school supplies and otherwise support underserved school communities. Our webpage is currently under construction, as the old one is badly outdated, but here's a video about our work. We are looking to expand our sister school program and have multiple schools from which to choose.

Lo llamo por telef...See MoreHi! Even though I've been doing this for awhile, I still get confused on the use of 'Lo' as a DOP for people. I know the differences between the DOP and IOPs but this one always trips me up. (Must be a mental block.) I have never been good at catching when it should be Lo and continuously use Le instead. So, for example:
Lo llamo por telefono= I call him/her Why wouldn't it be Le llamo?
h t t p : / / w w ...See MoreWith certain verbs, there are some regional variations as well as some differences in meaning when the direct object pronoun is used or the indirect object pronoun. Such is the case with "llamar".
This article on Hispanoteca helped me a while back because I would see this variation in native discourse.
h t t p : / / w w w . hispanoteca . eu / Foro - preguntas / ARCHIVO - Foro / Llamar - llamarse - se&37;20le&37;20llama . htm
(NOTE: No "l" on the end of "htm". Remove all the spaces.)
Hope the article helps! If you need any clarification, just ask. :)

Sra.MThank you, everyone! It is helping to hear everyone's explanations! I actually understand it better than before. I guess it is a matter of "catching" it and taking that extra second to think before speaking. :)

Yes. Tengo hambre de bistec is fine, or also: Se me antoja un bistec or: Se me apetece un bistec
