Hola all, I used to have the time to be on this site a lot many years ago. Also since then, the only Spanish-speaking person in my area moved away. What professional development do you participate in, rural teachers? It's so hard not to want to hop on a plane back to Queretaro...

I grew up in Michigan! I remember well how at our small high school there was only one Spanish teacher but she did a fantastic job for us. She would get us far enough to place in the top 5 in the state on the National Spanish exam co consistently.

Oh, my, yes! I can relate. My first four years teaching were at one of the smallest rural districts in the state of Iowa. Not only were there no people in the area to practice with, the act of speaking the language was suppressed by the culture. Frustrating, to be sure.

Julieta I remember going to Chicago with my family and there were Spanish sp speaking maids at the hotel. I asked them where to go to get Sp Spanish magazines. They told me. I convinced my dad to drive me. My My mom was sure we'd be killed. Dad's view was the maids probably we weren't going to send us somewhere to be killed, bad for the ho hotel reputation...See More
