I retired about 15 years ago. A neighbor started learning Spanish on Babble and asked me to meet with her to practice conversation. I was surprised to see that in the beginning lessons they are teaching "Mi nombre is . . . " and not "me llamo." Is this now common? Thanks for helping me move my Spanish teaching skills into the 21st century.
Constancia Just a guess, but it's probably because it's easy and English speakers can relate to the pattern of possessive adjective + name + to be verb, since it's exactly the same thing they already use.

Think of it—how many times did you hear a cringeworthy "me llamo es"?

I rest my case.
