Good teachers always use the weekly spelling test as a diagnostic assessment and differentiate instruction by testing on the words students do not know, supplemented by unknown words from their own writing, results of diagnostic assessments, and commonly confused words or homonyms. Check out the resources in this link:

This site lets you create words lists, use them in free games, resources, and printables, and even give your spelling tests. You can create individual lists for each group. [link removed]

You may wish to share this newly launched site which facilitates online word sorts: [link removed]
Teachers can: • Create their own word sorts • Use any of the hundreds already created (in a developmental spelling program) • Student individual logons • Student results’ monitoring
5 valid spelling words a week - 5 words that teach a rule - when two vowels go walking, one vowel does the talking - rather than ten words at least four of which are just randomly thrown in to make a list of ten words.
Writing out words is archaic and ineffective. The brain does not learn to really spell that way. It's a punishment not an instruction. Do you have a word wall in your classroom? Words often used in writing so when they write they could look at the word wall?
By 5th grade unless I'm in a remedial class, I'm looking to them to spell basic words correctly and to try to use Spellcheck. I like to have them write but to keep their writing short so they have time and energy to redo it.
Remember that Einstein was a terrible speller and he still made positive contribution to the world.

Is there a specific spelling program on the Smartboard that could be used to integrate into a lesson for elementary school students? If so, what have you found to be the most effective program in your classroom?

Hallo Everyone I am looking for any Spelling Exercise Copybook SAMPLE,for a Second Grade. I used to have them a little while ago,it's basically a an A4 paper, with columns where kids would write words, from Language Art, in a second column they 'd repeat the words and then scramble them.Should you have any other form,I really appreciate it.
I was wondering if anyone had any fun or creative ideas to help teach a third grade class their weekly spelling words using a smartboard or an iPad. Is there any apps or techniques that works best in your classroom? Thanks.
