I am a 3rd grade teacher in NY. As part of my professional development this year, I am maintaining a blog about teaching problem solving strategies. It would help me out a great deal professionally if you would follow my blog and add feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. I will start posting next week. Go here: [link removed]
Great concept and thanks for sharing with us, for sure will visit. Happy posting -Gen F.

I want it to be interactive, so I have things they can do (polls, wallwishers, and sometimes virtual pets, etc.) We have a traveling stuffed bear, and I put updates of his adventures on the blog.
From the home page, I have a link to our writing blog. Part of our writer's workshop is publishing, or presenting, our work. The writing blog is a place to do that. It gives the students a real audience and serves as a portfolio over the course of the school year. The students tell me what they want to include on the blog.
My problem is I only have one computer (no student computers) in my classroom. So at snack time they all huddle around trying to see what's new. We have a computer lab where the kids go once a week, but the computer teacher doesn't always have time for them to get on and see their comments. I'd like them to be able to comment on each other's writings.
So it is really up to the parents to help their child get on and interact. I wish parents would comment more, but they just don't.
It's a lot of work, and I spend a lot of time on it because, when the kids do get on, they really enjoy it. I mention it to parents in emails and newsletters on a weekly basis. How do I create more traffic from the parents?

"EDUCATE! ORGANIZE!! MOBILIZE!!! These are the three pillars on which Ed Notes is founded – providing information on current ed issues, organizing activities around fighting for public education in NYC and beyond and exposing the motives behind the education deformers. We are part of a tiny band of resisters. Nothing will change unless YOU GET INVOLVED IN THE STRUGGLE!"
