I have a class blog for my 1st grade students. My students love it! I put things on it to keep parents connected and as a way to review with the kids things we've done in class. It is specifically about their class, so they feel real ownership.

I want it to be interactive, so I have things they can do (polls, wallwishers, and sometimes virtual pets, etc.) We have a traveling stuffed bear, and I put updates of his adventures on the blog.

From the home page, I have a link to our writing blog. Part of our writer's workshop is publishing, or presenting, our work. The writing blog is a place to do that. It gives the students a real audience and serves as a portfolio over the course of the school year. The students tell me what they want to include on the blog.
