Why would an airline offer discounts for personal travel just because someone is a teacher?
Rather simple, but if you read through the posts another poster decided to attack me for asking the simple question.
I went on further to explain how fabric stores or office supply stores might offer discounts because teachers are notorious for purchasing things for the classrooms at these types of stores. Back to school gives these businesses a big boost with supply lists (in some schools not all).
I completely understand that anyone can turn down any discount. Not sure why you feel the need to explain that.
And here you are accusing that I may not be a teacher because you didn't like my question.
Again I will ask, why would an airline offer discounts for personal travel just because someone is a teacher?
Unions negotiate deals, I can possibly see that happening, but an airline saying any teacher (regardless of union affiliation) gets a discount is something I just don't understand.
I also wonder why you keep calling me out directly. I understand we disagree. I also understand it is easier for you to do so under the cloak of anon (and changing anon at that). But really, you are making this personal.
Maybe I should make up a screen name for you and start using it to address you.....hmmmmm

A valid question, and valid answers, but leave the bickering to the children...

06:30 am Very early in morning we will depart from Istanbul, drive along the northern shores of the Marmara Sea, and as soon as we arrive we will have a break for lunch.
*Gallipoli and The Dardanelles after our lunch we will stop to visit Gallipoli, a place of fierce WWI fighting between Allied forces and the Turks. At ANZAC Cove thousands lost their lives in one fateful dawn morning. We will also see other famous battle sites of World War 1 in this area, such as Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair. From here we go to a ferry and cross the Dardanelles. For World War 1 buffs, you will know the Dardanelle Straits were a strategic crossing point for the allied armies to cross from Europe to Asia Minor. Over a nine month campaign, more than half a million soldiers lost their lives in the fight to control this strait of water and nearby Gallipoli peninsula.

It has always been a pleasure to guide my trips and occasionally trips for other schools. Designing my own trips and selecting hotels/restaurants/length of day trips, etc. is what I am very comfortable doing because I want the kids to have an authentic experience, avoiding the touristy beaches, exploring cities that many times are not offered by other companies and having the opportunity to participate in some local festivities.
The main reason I am unable to continue is the economy. In the past my local company was very competitive in their prices, plus I had a salary and a per diem for meals. That's not the case anymore, going through a smaller company raises the price quite a bit; therefore I have been in contact with ACIS & Passports, as well as my colleague's company. I know some teachers that have traveled with these companies and have only good things to say about them.

Any suggestions for a good company to tour Italy with? The agenda might include Rome, Venice, Assisi, Florence and the lakes. I appreciate all comments- I have not been to Italy nor do I know a reliable company. Thank you!
