I am getting my certification in Texas, but I think I will someday want to move to another state. I don't know where yet, and I am just looking for general info. Is it typical to have to take more school or just a test to get certified in a new state? What are the fees like? ($10-50 range or $500-1000 range?) Thanks!

I graduated from a university in WI and moved to MN. MN and WI do NOT have reciprocity (who knows why not with their similar education programs). MN required me to take 2 additional tests and once I had passed those gave me a temporary teaching certificate. I then had to go through a MN University to look at my transcript and let me know if there was anything I needed to take and get approval from them before they gave me a full time teaching license. In WI I am certified in Spanish pK-12 and ESL pK-12. MN would not certify me in ESL without me taking a bunch of additional courses but after a lot of struggle and an oral proficiency interview I got approval for the Spanish certification. Certification is around $100 in MN plus the costs of the tests and oral proficiency interview (which I don't remember off hand).
I'm now moving back to WI and so it all seems like such a waste (my temporary teaching certificate in MN gave me 3 years and wouldn't have expired until this summer) but I didn't know that when I was going through all of it.

Evon GeraceI recvieved my teaching lisence in Texas as well. My initial certification was in EC-4 (generalist) after graduating in 2008 from TAMUCC. My initial certification was in EC-4 (generalist) after graduating in 2008 from TAMUCC. After this I took the exams for 4-8 (generalist) and ESL (EC-4) and was granted certifaction in both areas. When I moved to Kansas in 2010, I submitted transcripts from TAMUCC along with the application (and fees). Though the fingerprinting is a national database, each state has their own fingerprinting process and requires that it be redone. Kansas issued me a B-3 initial lisence but dropped off 4th grade because it was not within the area they offer. They also dropped my 4-8 lisence because the 4-6 grades in Kansas require that you complete a degree program. They also limited my ESL endoresment to "pull out" only. When I looked into what classes I would need to regain my 4-8 endorsement I was told that it would require completing a whole new program at a college/university in Kansas. Also, an initial lisence is only valid for two years. Though it is renewable, you have to complete a year long mentoring program and apply for your professional lisence within 4 years (Unlike Texas where it is valid for 5 years and remains the same type of endoresement).
My advise: If you have to move . . .stick to Texas. I wish I had never left. If you can't avoid an out-of- state move contact the Department of Education in the new state and begin the process as early as possible. Just don't expect it to be easy OR inexpensive. States are using this relocation as a means to draw revenue.
Are you going to book that vacation or travel online?
Will you receive commission for booking it yourself?
Will be be able to travel at wholesale prices?
If you were shown how you could book the same that same travel or vacation for the same competitive prices, then receive 60% of the travel commission and the ability to write it off on your income taxes, what would your interest level be?

I’m so glad I called as NETC seems to have the worst service rating out of all these companies. NETC is smaller then most of the other companies, but they have more unresolved complaints then any other company. This is funny because all the sales rep could do was talk about how great their services is and that’s why they’re more expensive. Interesting enough when
I talked to the representative at the Better Business Bureau to try and understand what this information means. What she told me was NETC doesn’t currently have a rating because there are too many unresolved complaints. All of the other companies currently have a satisfactory rating.
I did ask the NETC sales rep about this. She said one of the senior managers was going to call me directly. I’ll keep you updated. For now it looks like I’m going to stay with ACIS. If you want to do your own homework, I listed the Better Business Bureau link for NETC below.

One to check out. I traveled with Earth Explore a few years ago and did a great program in Hawaii. They work with the University of Hawaii through their EE Foundation. They stress hands on science, history and environmental education, and it is. The Foundation's role is to connect kids to nature and the planet thru hands on study so very timely.
We've heard many teachers say that they want a travel group so they can travel with other educators. Now you have it! We have started a travel club with you in mind. Please visit our web site and get your FREE membership and newsletters to the #1 Travel Club for teachers.
HadelAre there any groups going somewhere in the US from 14 to 21 of March (Spring Break)? I am single and I would like to join other persons who have my same interests.
