P.S- This trip may be expensive because London/I...See MoreI work for a travel agency so I will not recommend any companies since that would be biased. The best thing to do would be to look at all the online reviews and read the terms and conditions for each company. Make sure before you book you know everything they promise and have it in writing.
P.S- This trip may be expensive because London/Ireland Hotel prices are ridiculous. Also, because you have a small group, you will not be able to get a group rate on hotels or Air. Group rates are for 10+. Actually, you can travel well independently if you contact the respective visitors' bureaus and ask for assistance in planning your trip. They have bureaus in the US. So you can contact the British Tourist Authority, Irish one, and those representing the towns you want to visit.
Public transportation is the way to go if you really want to meet the locals - and both British and Irish are very hospitable (I have been invited to their homes for supper etc.)
There are a lot of one day and half day tours one can take using your hotel as a hub in London etc.
The airlines also have family packages that can include tours.
Plan ahead from your armchair - and you'll have a much better time than on an organized tour.

I am starting to write about my experience with student travel. I would love to hear other stories, and, please, feel free to read and comment on what I am writing. :)

I arrive in Rome on July 20 and leave Sept 1, 2009. In that time I plan to travel Italy and Greece and I am doing a 2 week tour in Egypt. I would love to meet other teachers on my adventures.
The Egypt Tour is open to anyone. I am booking through trekescape.com (Julie Ruston) and I am traveling with Imaginative Traveler (a company I traveled with in Thailand). The Tour is titled "Jewels of Egypt" it has had amazing reviews from people that I have met on my travels.

I am so happy to be on vacation, and I will be visiting the Orlando, Disney area in July. I am traveling with sister(emt) and cousin(pre-nursing). Does anyone have a spare room, for us to share for a few nights, between July 7 and the 15. Or a backyard we could camp out in....or a car to rent, we all have good insurance and driving records.... I look forward to hearing from some kind folks from Teachers Net. I have really enjoyed the thoughtful comments posted on this site.
I recently published a book called "Roam Italy: A Teacher and His Students Take the Ultimate Class Trip."
I know many people here are considering far away class trips and thought I might mention my book because I tried to reflect on many of the bases that need to be covered when going abroad.
Those who have travelled to Italy, what are your favorite cities you have visited in Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio? I've already been to Orvieto but would love to hear about other places that some of you think should not be missed. I'll be there for three weeks and will have time to explore.
