hahaNo problem. When figuring finances, don't forget to take in account housing costs (you probably wouldn't have any), the cost of living (it may be lower/much lower) and the tax situation (you would likely not have to pay US taxes and local taxes are likely to be less than you are paying now).
I wish to teach at a DODEA school in Europe when I retire from my current position in 3 years. Any help getting started and making contacts is greatly appreciated.
If DoDEA is your goal, then your best bet is to ...See MoreWell, first off, try posting on the DoD board, as this board is pretty dead. There really aren't too many ways to make meaningful contacts that will help you get hired in Europe, aside from doing your student teaching at a DoDEA school there, or possibly working for a DoDEA school stateside.
If DoDEA is your goal, then your best bet is to maximize your areas of certification (from DoDEA's perspective). You might to need to actually apply, select your target jobs and have HR evaluate your transcripts to see what areas they consider you qualified in (if you haven't already).
I would humbly like to thank all of you who have provided invaluable feedback to those of us who are attempting to enter the DODEA system or in the process of entering the system. I have been eyeing a position with DODEA for the past 2 years and in my first year of applying as a special education teacher this year I was blessed with an offer to teach in Germany! Honestly, the experience and wisdom offered by those of you who take time to offer thoughtful and well-informed information was invaluable! I am so grateful.
Now that I have accepted my position, I am wondering if anyone is aware of what is covered in per diem stateside? How is per diem allocated and what is covered? I have not been able to get a straight answer on this. On my orders it simply gives a flat rate, but it does not break down what is covered or for how much or for how long.
The challenge in this case is that my family and I started the process of getting our passports executed on a military installation here in CA almost three months ago and after submitting our passport applications it was discovered that the military passport agent did not fill something out correctly in his portion of the application and this in turn caused the passports to be placed in suspension with the State Dept. After being notified of this I again resubmitted the passport applications and was told for weeks that the applications had not been processed. Upon checking in with the person serving as our passport point of contact, I was informed that the State Department was back logged due to the government shut down and that our passports were not currently being processed. When our passports were finally getting processed, I was told that my wife and I needed to resubmit, again, copies of our ID's which we'd already done for a second time when we resubmitted the passport applications.
As of today, neither my family nor myself have our passports, and I have shipped out all of our household goods along with our vehicles. We have been living in a hotel along with renting a vehicle for almost three weeks and our report date has been passed by several days. I have been in contact with my HR point person and the person in charge of the passports on just about daily basis for weeks, so everyone knows what is happening.
The good news is, we are close to receiving our passports (this weekend as I understand it). We are in the process of requesting new orders, so we can then request travel arrangements.
My question now is really about TQSA. I'm not sure what the protocol is under such transitory/hardship circumstances around extending TQSA, but I really hope that it is indeed possible to have my TQSA extended to cover our expenses during our unanticipated time here stateside.
Does anyone know what amount is allocated for lodging expenses per day? What is allocated for food per day? What is allocated for transportation per day; etc…? Am I eligible for an extension of my stateside TQSA if I must stay stateside past my original orders stated date of departure? Also, who do I contact to start getting reimbursed for the expenses that are covered, as the money we are spending is adding up fast.
I am looking to have my class of 6th grade students (11-12 year olds) connect with international students via snailmail and for some online activities this year. If you are interested, please contact me via email: etrapasso@emoschools.org
We are a bilingual pre-school in Switzerland, loooking for an English teacher (preferably from UK) -- must be native speaker. 80% position. This is a one year contract, renewable, starting 01.08.2018. Please contact me with your CV if you are interested.
If you are serious about int'l teaching you should check out Int'l Schools Review's forums (much more active) and think about joining Search Associates (several hundred dollars but generally considered worth it for their schools database, job fairs, etc).
Cassandrahaha- thanks for the information. I will check them out. I am very particular for my location through one of these agencies!! It's just a back up in case I don't get a job through the DoDea.
