I think your gut reaction may well be right here. The international schools will be closed, and the majority of teachers will be visiting family and friends in their home countries or touring other parts of Europe.
I teach at one of the international schools here and can send you some advice on what to do/see in and around Prague. But if you want to do some sort of presentation, you might find it more fruitful if you contact individual school administrators by email and pitch your idea to them. You should find their addresses in the CoIS ECIS or COBIS directories.
If you were coming during the school year, it would be a different story. CPD is an important issue to us in Prague. I'm running a CPD session on May 18 for teachers who want to learn how Scratch coding can enhance their curriculum, and in June, one of the other international schools is hosting a geographical apps summit.
If anybody wants to join for a short or long period please do write me. I dont charge anything to arrange this, but only ask that you pay your own way and help with the collection of supplies you would need for the art/craft lessons each day. I have some pictures on my Facebook page on the village Letang which is where I will be returning. It is about 13 hours from Kathmandu close to the Indian border. [link removed]
Everybody will be responsible for setting up their own lessons, so a love for art/craft and children is required. If you need any other information please do write me.
I am beginning my research for teaching abroad for the next school year (2014) and I am curious on the agencies / recruiters/ websites to lean toward and who to steer clear of? What job fair is best to attend in the US? Any other info about getting starts would be awesome! Thanks.

I just saw this and posted right after you about this same info. Interested to hear what people have to say.

I used Search Associates and really liked the service and help I received. As much or as little as I wanted and very quick to respond to emails. I went to the job fair in San Francisco. It was well organized. I met another person there who had gone to one by ISS a few days before and she said she liked how the Search Associates one was well organized and didn't have a million people running around like the ISS one. I have not experienced anything personally with ISS, though.
I have 4 ...See MoreHi. I am a trained visual arts teacher with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Hons first class, a Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Fine Arts first class. I currently work in a secondary school (years 7-12) and am interested in potentially moving to California or Washington State or Oregon to extend and continue my teaching practice.
I have 4 years experience in one of Sydney's best private schools. I understand that each state certifies differently but wondered if anyone had experience with either (or all 3) states and the process that one might begin with. I have heard that it may be easier to get a job in the private sector considering my experience and background and their arts programs.
As far as I can figure it looks as though you pay a third party company to evaluate your credentials and then apply directly to schools for work as jobs come up. It also looks like there is an E3 visa which Australians can apply for once they have an offer of employment.
Does this sound like I'm on the right track?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated in terms of where to begin. I have looked at edjoin and a number of other recruiting agencies and will follow up on any and all suggestions!
I am a keen and enthusiastic young teacher and think I could offer a lot to an American classroom.

As someone who has her first overseas position starting next month, I would say it payed off for me. I used Search Associates. I think some of the schools that hire only go through the agencies because things like the teaching certificates and references are all in one spot and they can check out a candidate to see if they want to proceed. You get access to schools that are hiring and can see things like how big the schools are, the salary, and benefits along with the positions they have open. An email is all you have to send for them to know you are interested instead of having to fill out an application for every school. I actually received my job offer at my first job fair. I received many offers for interviews as well as many job offers.
major is in a social science (but I will have certification and several courses in biology and chemistry (about 20 credits each).
Is there any hope of getting a spring start (say if a teacher quit over the Christmas break) and likewise for domestic positions or should I plug away in subbing?
