Late Openings - Getting Noticed

Hi guys and gals,

So what's the best way to get an interview for the late openings that are coming about? I've posted my resume on tieonline.com, sent resumes directly to the schools, and registered for the COIS fair in Fairfax in June. What's the most efficient and polite way to get noticed and get an interview? What's the timeframe for most admins in filling the late openings?

Dave I see 115 openings in Elementary (K-6), a lot of positions in the middle east (too many to list). 1 Shanghai, 2 Singapore, 2 Morocco, 1 Russia.

D. Thomas I've always thought that Search is worth the money if you are serious about getting a job overseas. It can be done on your own, but you can learn a lot about schools, openings and the int'l market in general by tracking schools and jobs via the Search school database (salaries, benefits, hiring preferences etc) and yes, you do get the occassional s...See MoreI've always thought that Search is worth the money if you are serious about getting a job overseas. It can be done on your own, but you can learn a lot about schools, openings and the int'l market in general by tracking schools and jobs via the Search school database (salaries, benefits, hiring preferences etc) and yes, you do get the occassional spontaneous request to interview, admittedly mostly from schools you wouldn't really be interested in (although I did get an unsolicted request to interview with Cairo American College, even before all the recent turmoil).

I'm happy to send you a screenshot of what a school database page looks like if you are interested. Even if you didn't get an offer that you liked this year, you would be primed for next year's hiring season.

Dave Depends on the school. Usually though international schools get back to you pretty quickly if they want you or are interested. If you send an email and you don't hear anything back in a week, they either have someone else in mind, or they really aren't interested. If you send an email and you don't hear anything back in a week, they either have someone else in mind, or they really aren't interested. Many schools after you send a resume will send you a form email saying its been received, and if you arent contacted in a certain amount of time (called being short listed), then you can assume that you were not successful.
